Do we need to uninstall our current version before downloading this one?

Forgot to add...Thanks!

I just downloaded the update, it will automatically replace the old installation.

Thanks for the update, I hated going from Sepia on my iPhone to plain B&W on PC. I'll definitely be using the PC version more now.

Very nice. The added controls are wonderful. Being able to adjust the brightness is terrific, and the ability to change the color to sepia is going to help me I think.

It's nice to get this upgrade while I'm waiting for the 2.5 for my K2.

I think I like the black text on white screen with the brightness turned down. It looks very similar to the colors on my K2.

Please make Kindle for PC work with firewalls or whatever> I never could use the program because it dont connect to my Amazon account.

I so frigging hate that error message "Failed to connect with http status code 0: I even tried and disable the firewalls all to no avail. And Amazon Customer Service was of no help.

Is it my imagination or does it start faster and open books faster now too? I love it so far. I popped open a photog book and was able to start highlighting. Yes, yes, yes. Oh yes!!!

OMG The black is great!

Pamela says:
Have you tried the new version? You can always configure your firewall/av to allow it as an exception. That's the other programs, not Amazon.

I just download the newest version and noticed under the 'View' menu, a listing 'Text Color'. This option only changes the background to White, Sepia, or Black and not the actual text color.

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 30, 2010 5:26:11 PM PDT
You can select White and then Black and have white text on a black background.

I like the option to tone down the brightness. I'll read on my computer more with this, especially when I'm sitting here in my family room where the lighting is dim.

I'm seeing a LONG time to download a book from the Archives. How long should it take? It's been about 5 minutes and it's still churning. I can't seem to stop it to try another book without closing the program.

I think the server is overwhelmed. Everyone's downloading and opening K4PC to try it out.

Where did you adjust the brightness? The black with white text helped a lot but I can't find the brightness adjustment. Okay, I found it.

H Meya,
I took two seconds to pull Atlas Shrugged from the archive.

You have to have a book open. The brightness is on a slider under the Aa button.

That book still hasn't downloaded. I'll have to close the program and try another. I'm not sure what format the book is...I can't change the line spacing, so I wonder if it's a topaz format (which I'm totally unfamiliar with)

My book took about two minutes too. Thanks, I found the adjustment. I got so excited about the black background that I missed it.

I DL the new update. I'm trying to get the sepia background with black print on it. I can't get it to do that. Is that available?

Posted on Apr 30, 2010 5:47:54 PM PDT
Well, I can't get any book to download from my archive. When I close K4PC, I get this error:

Runtime Error
the path to K4PC
R6025
-pure virtual function call

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 30, 2010 5:53:27 PM PDT
V.

There are two ways:

1- under the View menu select 'Text Color' and the background will change not the text. Must be mislabeled.

2- After openning a book click on the font icon Aa and you can alter the 'Color Mode'

V. Strickler says:
Thank you, Steve. There must be a glitch in the program. When I go to View and select Text Color, then sepia, it changes the print and the background to sepia. The print is a darker sepia than the background, but not enough to be acceptable to me. If I go to the AA area where you can change the size of the font and I change the text to black, the background turns black and the print turns white. I guess I'll have to wait for an update to fix this, but I'm okay with that if necessary.

T. Rehberg says:
Has anyone figured out how to print notes and highlights from the Kindle for PC? Is this even possible? I cannot locate a "My Clippings" or any other file that I think would contain the notes.

Posted on Apr 30, 2010 6:48:02 PM PDT
Pamela says:
Since there is syncing involved, wouldn't your highlights and notes live in the my clippings file?

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 30, 2010 6:50:03 PM PDT
Pamela says:
Yes, you can see them here

http://kindle.amazon.com/your_highlights

which means they would also be on your Kindle, and you can print them as well.

T. Rehberg says:
OK, maybe I'm not understanding this correctly. When reading on the Kindle, you can make notes, connect the Kindle with the USB cable and then transfer the "My Clippings" text file to the PC for printing. But when you're already reading on the PC, you can't print the notes from the PC? Another point to my question that may make a difference, the book I am reading is a DRM-Free mobipocket book that wasn't purchased from Amazon and therefore doesn't reside in my Amazon library. Thanks for everyone's help.

If you go to the link I offered, you notes will show up and you can print them from there. You can also use the text file and print from there. My understanding, and I haven't done it but read that you could, is that you can add non-drm'd books to K4PC, and then I would think you can highlight, note take, etc.

Someone posted that you could add non-Kindle books to K4PC. I just tried and cannot accomplish it. Can someone post in how to do this please? Thanks.
