I've heard you can't read PDF documents, but is there any problem transfering Word documents from your computer to the Kindle and reading them there?

Yes, Carol you can. I haven't done it myself, but you can send any .doc file to Amazon for conversion. For more info, check out the Kindle Support Page, where they have a pdf version of the Kindle User Guide. That'll walk you through exactly what you can do, and how.

Or you can convert them yourself (PDF or Word) and transfer them via USB using free MobiPocket Creator software:

Thank you! That was very helpful. I did what you said and am now converting some of my Word documents, even though I don't have my Kindle yet. This may work!
