what happens to books on a kindle when you deregister/reregister?

I gave my daughter a kindle and we are thinking of creating her own amazon account so she can download books as she wants, with her gift card funds so she is not using my credit card indiscriminantly. Question is, we have already purchased one book for it that she is currently reading. What happens to that book if we move the kindle over to a different amazon account?

it will stay on yours. However you can send it to her's first (as a joint account) then change them over to two different accounts. As long as she doesn't remove it it will stay on her kindle.

If you are just changing the kindle over to her, I'd call customer service and ask them. They will call you back in seconds and walk you through it.

If she decides to delete the book from the kindle, it will be in your archives but not hers. If she thinks she will want to reread it, she can just keep it in a collection, perhaps one that is titled do not delete. If she does delete it, she can deregister from her account, register to yours, download it, deregister from your account and then reregister to hers again.

I have de-registered/re-registered a Kindle. According to everything I can see in the Forum, the existing books should still be there. In fact, they are there. I can attach the Kindle to a USB port and open the Kindle drive and the books are all there. However, they do not appear anywhere in the Kindle user interface. I can't find any way to access them for reading. Where are they? How can I see them?

Have you gone to the Archive and tried to re-download your books? You can also go to Manage Your Kindle and re-send them to the device. It sounds like your Kindle thinks that these books are coded for a different device, so it won't open / recognize them, but reloading them should solve that.

I re-registered on a different account. The issue is limiting which books are available to my children. I created a new account where I'm registering mulitple readers. Again, it seems based on reading what's written in this forum that anything that was on the Kindle before I de-registered from the first account should still be accessible after re-registering to a new account.

You can see them on the Kindle drive - but are they in the Documents folder? That's where they have to be in order to appear on the Home page.
