How is this possible? I carry my tablet with me everywhere I go? How can device encryption not even be an option any more? My 6" Kindle Fire from one year ago is telling me that I can't upgrade to version 5 without removing encryption, because it is deprecated. Is this like the reading option from the Silk browser which disappeared and then popped up again many months later? Is the feature coming back some day? How can we keep using these devices if we can't actually secure the large amount of personal data that ends up on them?

I am now going to have to wipe my Kindles clean. Then discard them and buy another tablet. This is another example of Amazon beginning to slip when it comes to customer service. I used to love and defend Amazon . Amazon has also began using the USPS to save money. My prime deliveries are now late or lost or I find a note in my mailbox saying my package was left at the post office! Hell I may as well drive to a store if I have to drive to the post office. In the past UPS was used and brought my order to the door. I'm going to have to cut ties Amazon.

Amazon has already reversed this decision and will provide encryption again in an "update this spring."
