I haven't even received it yet, and it seems that a few have, and there is an update? Does anyone know what is new in the update? Is it the same updates that were applied to the 7" Fire HD, being worked into the 8.9" model or something new?

Its not unusual to have an update developed during the weeks between when they were actually manufactured when they are shipped.

Yeah, but what was changed?

Probably bug fixes or it might just be for the Kindle Freetime.

Just talked to the Kindle help line- even the rep there was not sure what's in the update.
My new 8.9 began streaming the update, then paused at 1%, said "try again later."
Now it will not go to update site at all, and the command box for update is greyed out.
My device still shows running Version 8.1.1. Phone help desk advises let the device
sleep and see if it updates then. Also, I tried a laptop download/transfer to Kindle, to no avail.

That sucks. Possibly the system is overloaded with pushing updates?

That's what I was thinking too Rocker. ^^^ But good news- the update just started pushing
through on its own, and is nearly complete! It has to be the system was a little overwhelmed
since many new HD Fires are delivering this week and we're all turning them on at the same time.
It's just fun being in our new electronic world, eh?

Beats installing an OS update from 20 floppies... or tape.
