A friend, who had been planning on buying a Fire, told me this morning that the Kindle Fire has halted production and been recalled. When I asked her who told her that, she said it was 'all over' the news.

I assured her she was wrong. But this is an educated, intelligent, and usually well-informed lady. Does anyone know where she might of gotten that idea? Is there an urban rumor circulating?

Thanks, Jazzy, Rev. I googled before asking here, only found a 2009 hoax article that eink Kindle was being recalled as possible a fire threat.

Maybe Bruce is right, maybe some Barnes & Noble employee told her?

Apple are recalling the first model of the iPod Nano due to reports of batteries catching fire. That would at least get the words "recall" and "Fire" in the same sentence.

Perhaps she may have heard of rumors of Blackberry halting production of its Playbook, which is what the Fire is based off of. See here: http://techland.time.com/2011/09/30/blackberry-playbook-sees-amazon-kindle-fire-drops-in-price-200/

Granted, even BB's ceasing production of its own tablet is pure rumor and nothing more.

I just saw a blip on my local news about Fire owners having connection issues. No recall mentioned.

Maybe she confused the Fire with the Volt.

I actually had a parent (I'm a teacher) tell me the same thing TODAY! Apparently, there has been a recall of the Kindle Fire, and Amazon was the company that was recalling the device. That is really weird.

I am a news junkie. Get several hours of news a day. I have heard (about a week ago) 1 story on NPR that Amazon was being sued over patent infringement, something to do with them useing the Android OS in the Fire. Apparently someone out there (not Google, owners of Android) has a patent they claim Android walks all over and they are sueing everyone with a divice that uses the Android OS. Most are rolling ove and settleing out of court (in at least one case, this has increased the price of smart phones by $15 a unit). Amazon is one of the few fighting their case. My understanding is in no case have these lawsuits resulted in any company stoping production of anything, these guys are just looking for money and moveing on. To get a better idea of what's going on, Google "patent wars" or "patent troll". Don't worry, our Fires are safe.

An internet search of "Kindle fire recall" returns mostly links to an article titled "Kindle Fire Ships Early, Apple Recalls First-Gen iPod Nanos" maybe people are just glancing over that so fast they misunderstand it.

There is a company suing Amazon over the "look and feel" of music catalogs on the Fire, refering to 2 patents this company owns. Seems this company also sued Apple and Apple settled out of court. I'm too lazy to look it up right now and reference the details.

I believe the news was that kindle has lost about $20. / kindle fire in their attempt to scoop the competition. This is a big loss for them, but will pay off, I'm sure, in the competitive long run.

Curt Duval says:
Considering Amazon is still currently selling the Fire, I would say there is no recall.

There are some google results that say "Kindle Fire and the iPod Nano Recall", meaning that the article has news on the Kindle Fire plus news on the iPod Nano recall, not that both items are recalled.

Maybe she heard about fixes for the Fire and assumed they were going to be recalled??? I found this on upcoming fixes for the Fire:

Who knows how rumors start!
