Does anyone know if the New Kindle 4G will it still work if you decide not to pay for the data service?

Doc Dittie says:
Yes. But if you don't want the cellular connectivity, why pay more for the hardware?

I was thinking in a few years if the kids don't need it for the internet so much if it would still work on our wireless in the house without paying the yearly fee.

Doc Dittie says:
That $49 plan is only available for the first year. If you have wi-fi at home, you'd probably do just as well without the cellular unless you travel and might want to just check e-mail occasionally because 250mb of data is a tiny amount per month.

D. Sharp says:
4G and wireless aren't the same thing - 4G is cellular and you pay for that, wireless in your house is something you set up yourself through your internet router and, if within your house, its free.

Thanks for the info, do you think the 8.9" will be to big/heavy for reading in bed?

Doc Dittie says:
What's too heavy is subjective. Who's to say what you might think is too heavy? It also kind of depends on how you'd hold it. Find a hardcover that weighs about the same and try that to see what you think.
