So I have decided to get the Kindle Fire HD 8.9", and was curious what everyone else was buying for a case? Originally I was thinking of buying the Black Case with stand for $54.99, but now I am considering possibly finding a cheaper selection, as I don't need the stand. What is everyone buying for a case for their new Kindle Fire HD? Any particular reasons why?

That one looks really nice, and is a great price. Does the case seem to be sturdy? And does it protect the Kindle Fire well?

I'm a big fan of Moko cases. They've announced one for the 8.9 but it hasn't been released yet and has little info on the product page: MoKo Slim-fit Folio Cover Case with built-in Stand for Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 Inch 2012 Gen Tablet, BLACK (With Smart Cover Auto Wake/Sleep, WILL NOT Fit HDX 8.9 2013 and HDX 8.9 2014)

I have the Casecrown linked above and it's very nice.

I am waiting for this one (at the time, it was only $4.99) I thought I'd give it a try, too.

Yes the Casecrown is very sturdy and attractive. Its not leather, though but still very nice. The premium you pay for real leather is a big one and doesnt really affect the quality of the construction. So you get fake leather here, but at a great price. 99% of the "leather" cases on Amazon are vinyl. Watch for that when purchasing.

i hate the clip on cases. (moko and case crown make them) Had one for my 7. They dont fold back flat and are very uncomfortable in my hand. They're also quite heavy due to the metal clips.

Honestly what i did with my 7 is bought 4 different cases and tried them all at home. (I have Amazon Prime, so free shipping there) Then I returned 3. All in one box, it still only cost me five bucks to ship them all back at once. ( use the self pay option) Best way to do it. Then you see first hand what you want with a minimum of hassle.

Lisa, that sounds like a plan. I see so many I like, hard to choose so I am waiting for reviews to start posting so I can make a decision.

I ordered this one: Belkin Bluetooth Keyboard Folio Case for Kindle Fire HD 8.9", but i think I´d like one without a keyboard too, something cheap for everyday use.

I have the moko clip on case for my 7. I'm not a fan. Lisa is right; it doesn't fold back flat and that bothers me.

Does anyone think having a case that automatically puts the HD Fire to sleep is necessary? I bought a cheaper one because I want to wait and see what Oberon will come out with for the larger Fire. The Oberon cases probably will not have a sleep feature either. Big deal or no?

I like it for the wake-up feature for the Paperwhite. The turn on switch seems a bit hard to operate so the wake-up works well for me. Not sure if it's necessary for the HD.

i actually like the idea of the sleep cover for the HD over the PW. if i need to get away from the HD for an hour or two, it's nice to know the battery won't drain while it's waiting for me to get back. with the PW, the much longer battery life makes it no big deal if it sits turned on without being used.

Buying a sturdy, but inexpensive case, is important to me. So much so, that I've delayed purchasing an 8.9 inch Kindle until Acase, the brand of case I bought for my Touch and first generation Fire, comes out with some. These cases are well made and have shown almost no wear at all, in the almost one year that I've had them. I just can't see paying so much of a percentage of the cost of a Kindle for a case! Amazon seems to make the higher-priced cases for Kindles a lot easier to find than the cheaper ones! If you click on the Cases line on the 8.9 web page, all you see are the higher-priced cases. If you don't check out the Electronics category for e-reader cases, you are likely to miss many of the cheaper alternatives! I also have screen protectors for both of my Kindles and will wait for a greater selection of them, at lower costs, before I put my order in for the 8.9 Kindle. I don't care if I have to wait until after Xmas to get it. A little patience can save you a lot of money!

I bought the Amazon cover in black. It seems like an ideal choice so far. I like the sleep/wake function and the snug fit with none of the bezel covered. Also considering getting the same cover in saddle tan.

does it cover the corners? My friend had one cover that the corners were not covered and she dropped and the screen cracked?

The corners are protected but not solid.
