Jake says:
Is there a keyboard compatible with the original Kindle Fire? I see several for the HD version but I am having trouble finding one for the regular kindle fire. Does anyone know of a good keyboard for the kindle fire 7". thanks

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 5, 2012 5:55:08 PM PST
There's no such keyboard. That Fire doesn't have blue tooth.

Not even a plug in version?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 5, 2012 5:57:28 PM PST
No, it can't host anything via USB cable.

Well, obviously you're welcome to try it but that Fire doesn't have blue tooth.

No, I'm with you.
It's language is pretty vague so it could definitely confuse some folks like myself. Goodnight.

Kate says:
What if you were to get some sort of converter?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 25, 2012 5:09:53 PM PST
I'm pretty sure there is no sort of converter. There's nothing to convert. If you want to use a blue tooth keyboard, you have to have a device that actually has blue tooth.

Kate says:
No I meant if there is a keyboard that connects via a USB port, and you bought a converter like this AmazonBasics USB 2.0 Cable - A-Male to Mini-B - 6 Feet (1.8 Meters) would it work with the original Kindle Fire?

No. That Fire can't host anything.

ETA: That's just a regular mini USB anyway. It's not a converter at all.

Actually, yes. The new Kindle Fires (Kindle Fire HD 7" and 8.9") both have Bluetooth connectivity, which means that you can attach a Bluetooth keyboard to them. The "old" Kindle Fire (the non-HD 7" one, the one that costs $149) does *not* have Bluetooth and therefore does *not* support connecting a keyboard.

Here's where I found the information:
Kindle Fire HD 7", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 16 GB - Includes Special Offers (Previous Generation - 2nd) (search for "Bluetooth")

Any of these should work:

The mini usb port cannot be used to connect a keyboard. Only wireless bluetooth keyboards are supported.

Thanks' to everyone who took the time to help clarify there is no keyboard attachment option for the $149.00 Kindle Fire unit. However I love mine and the ability to email all my Excel, Word, and Power Point docs. for my private editing and on the fly OfficeSuite Professional 7, viewing capabilities.

How about a soft Keyboard app? I hats this keyboard with a passion. I have swift keys for my android and its amazing. See, I am not even going to correct that first sentence. Gah this stock keyboard sucks. I had to touch to save "sucks" which sucks.

I could connect my MS Sculpt keyboard via Bluetooth with my Kindle Fire HD without any probs.
