Hello everyone. Welcome - to the regulars, newbies and lurkers. Here is our home: the free books & Chat corner of the Amazon Kindle forum. Please join us in our search for books, then come back and share what you have picked, then join us for some wonderful conversation.

I'll have pastries and coffee (or tea) with cream, sugar (& maybe something extra to warm you up) ready when you all come over from the Wednesday thread.

I know I am very early in starting the thread. School and work are eating up all of my time at the moment, and I am afraid that if I wait until the morning, I will 1. forget, 2. oversleep, or 3. forget my computer at home... WhO kNoWs?!?! Ha-ha. But I do apologize for the lack of flair with my start today.

Me Again

Miracles can be damned inconvenient. That's what thirty-four-year-old stroke victim Jonathan Hooper learns when he wakes up after spending six years in a coma. Everyone calls Jonathan's recovery a "miracle," but since nobody had expected him to recover, his sudden awakening becomes an awkward intrusion on the lives of his family and friends. To make matters worse, Jonathan doesn't even recognize these people. The stroke has wiped away most of Jonathan's memory, while the coma has withered his body. In short, Jonathan's not the man he used to be - whoever that was.

The only bright spot for Jonathan is Rebecca Chase, a young woman he meets in the hospital's long-term recovery unit. A stroke has drastically changed her personality, making her a stranger to her husband. Gone is the vivacious trophy wife, replaced by a shy, awkward woman with a knack for saying exactly the wrong thing.

They don't fit in. And they'll never be the same. But now they've got to decide what matters most: who they were, or who they can become?

One from my wishlist Follow the Star (Young Underground #7) I'm trying to collect the whole series before I start reading them.

Charlie-bird: thanks for the start whenever it begins :) Hope your new day is productive and remember you will soon be putting this school part behind you and starting your new career. You may be just as busy, but it will quickly settle into a routine that you and your family will adjust too, and it will definitely be better than before. Another step on the journey.

Two from my wish list and then off to work:

On Unfaithful Wings (An Icarus Fell Novel) - Publication Date: December 22, 2011
"This is one of the best books I have read in a while. I look forward to the next novel in the series."
"Bruce Blake's On Unfaithful Wings is a great urban fantasy novel. I love good character development in a story's protagonist and Blake nails it with Icarus Fell. I found myself rooting for him from the get go and laughing out loud at some of his observations."
"On Unfaithful Wings was an impressive first novel. All of the characters were interesting and engaging, but in particular the main character and his struggle to reconcile with his new identity/job.
This is one of those stories that stays with me long after I read it and I'll be on the lookout for more from this author."
I was alive, then I was dead, now I'm stuck somewhere in between.
My name is Icarus Fell. I am a harvester.
The archangel Michael brought me back to collect souls and help them on their way to Heaven--that's what a harvester does. If I get enough of them before the bad guys do--if I do a good job--I can have my life back. Now people I knew in life are dying, killed by a murderer's knife, their bodies defiled, and the cops think I'm the killer.
I'm not, but I think I know who is.
But how does a dead man, a man who no longer exists, stop a psycho? I'm not sure, but I'm going to stop him before everyone I know is dead.
I have to stop him before he gets to my son.
"Icarus Fell is a flawed man but a wonderful character. From the moment I started reading On Unfaithful Wings I was pulled along by this interesting character and wanting to know what would happen next."

Death of the Couch Potato's Wife: Cozy Mysteries, Women Sleuths, Murder Mystery, Female Detective Suspense (New Releases for Women Sleuths) - Publication Date: May 14, 2012
Welcome to Boring, Indiana, home to patio cookouts, homeowner dues, carpeted lawns, and neighbors so welcoming they're dying to meet you - literally.
City slicker turned suburbanite housewife Laura Berry isn't taking well to life in her new neighborhood. She moved to follow her husband's dream, and now she can't tell if she's clinically depressed or just bored half to death. But Boring becomes anything but when Laura discovers her neighbor Candace Flynn face up on a sofa with her hand buried in a snack bag. With a healthy dose of neighborly suspicion and street smarts, Laura sets out to find Flynn's killer, but her curiosity becomes desperation when the killer targets Laura.
Someone is determined to stop her from digging deeper into the murder, but Laura is just as determined to figure out who's behind the death-by-poisoned-pork-rinds.

Have a great and pain-free day, all!

Judy

Also, you can't win free books on Goodreads.com and libboo.com. Libboo.com is a brand new website and from what I can tell it introduces people to new authors so the books are recently published. I think it works like this, the more you read and review books you earn points until you get a free book. Goodreads.com has a Giveaway section and there are pages and pages of books to give away for a limited time only and some of the authors may only have 2 books available and other may have 25 or more to give away. I picked a bunch of books in the giveaway section and I won a book that really sounds interesting. They mail the book to you and shipping and the book are free.

Good Morning everyone hope all is well.

I had to call amazon customer service this morning because I had 4 books show up in my kindle library. They were all Chinese dictionaries. I didn't get an email showing I had purchased them but they were in my library dated for November 7th. I don't know how they got there and customer service doesn't know either. They said I wasn't charged and I could delete them if I wanted to.

Has this happened to anyone else? I have had a kindle since 2008 and this is a first for me. It kinda has me worried.

Good Morning All! Thanks for starting us off Charlie-bird.

Leo- sorry to hear you still aren't back in tip top form, but glad to hear that things are moving in that direction.

Heading over to kinlib to get at least a few up early for once:

Soup Recipes: 50 Fast, Delicious And Easy Recipes For Homemade Soups, Stews And Chili (Love Of Cooking)- Cookbook (Yup, it's getting to be this time of year)

The Tally- Contemporary Fiction
A DARK TALE OF DANGER AND DIESEL FOR THE STUDENT LOAN GENERATION...
Welcome to the Student Bubble.
Welcome to a world where the DJs play the same songs in the same order every single night, and the one (and only) hit wonder reigns supreme. Welcome to a world of crude cartoon and misplaced melodrama; a world free of all but the most trifling of consequences, where exaggerated sensitivity is rife and a semester's success or suicide hangs on the whim of a woman.
Young Tommo wiles away his evenings in a purple drunken stupor, lost to the tender mercies of what he desperately wishes was a hopeless love affair, but in reality isn't even that. Gristle, meanwhile, is enraged when his weak-bladdered housemate Spadge moves out, only to be replaced by a neurotic freak named Jamal, who dares not only to bring books into his house, but to read them too.
And for poor Will, matters are even worse. Women are staying in of a night! How's he supposed to rack up his `tally' of conquests if women daren't leave their digs? They're all terrified that they'll be the next to fall prey to the invisible menace that has started stealing students away from the streets of Hull. Will has nothing to fear though - after all, he has his recently arrived destitute father to watch his back. And the fearsome Gristle. And the zealously neurotic Jamal. And the dangerously depressed Tom...
The Student Bubble is about to burst, and when it does, the degenerate residents of 146 Worthington Street will find themselves drowning in a reality that they're not equipped to comprehend, let alone survive in.

Me Again- Humor
Miracles can be damned inconvenient. That's what thirty-four-year-old stroke victim Jonathan Hooper learns when he wakes up after spending six years in a coma. Everyone calls Jonathan's recovery a "miracle," but since nobody had expected him to recover, his sudden awakening becomes an awkward intrusion on the lives of his family and friends. They don't fit in. And they'll never be the same. But now they've got to decide what matters most: who they were, or who they can become?
A steadily accelerating story exploring the irony, humor, and opportunity that can accompany personal calamity, Me Again follows the intertwined paths of two people forced to start over in life: one looking for his place in a world that has moved on without him, the other struggling to navigate a relationship with a man who wishes she were someone else.

Christmas In Magnolia Cove- Contemporary Fiction
Madison Carter's life is perfect, or so she thinks. As the top interior designer in Atlanta, clients are clamoring to work with her. She has the town's most eligible and handsome bachelor, Connor Strickland, all wrapped up and ready to marry her. Best of all, she's left her tormented past back in Magnolia Cove.
When she uncovers a secret about her fiance, she flees back to her family in Magnolia Cover - to a mother who loves her, a sister who despises her and a past full of the bullies who made her life miserable in high school.
Can Christmas bring about new opportunities for love, business and forgiveness?

Witchkillers- Horror Yellow Banner (previosuly taken book) for me gotten on April 2, 2012
Can a jackass loser win the hand of his "dream woman," while simultaneously saving the world? Can a grieving husband avenge the brutal murders of his wife and daughter? Will three twisted sisters stamp out humanity as we know it? Is it possible for a giant-headed mutant canine to eat two-hundred pounds of Dog Chow in a single day? Can a short, middle-aged, socially awkward bald man sell enough books to get both hair and personality transplants, and If so, will the (newly) hairily gregarious bastard have enough cashola left over for a much-needed lifetime supply of Viagra?
The answers to the first four questions can be found by reading the book ("Witchkillers"). The answer to the last question will largely depend on how many suckers...err...readers wanna know the answers to the first four questions. Hopefully, there'll be a lotta them.

Terminal Ambition: A Maggie Mahoney Novel- Legal Thriller
Maggie Mahoney wants justice for women at her law firm. The firm chairman wants to be Attorney General. Only one can win in this legal thriller.
Sweeny, Owens & Boyle sits at the top of Wall Street law firms. Brilliant and beautiful, Maggie Mahoney became a partner and the trophy wife of its managing attorney. Her husband's death renders Maggie an outsider with the firm's male establishment and creates a power vacuum.
Obsessed with his dream of becoming the next Attorney General, firm chairman, Andy Anderson, chooses a surprising replacement: Jack Slattery, a reputed sexist. Jack's background hardly qualifies him for such a prominent position. Maggie suspects Jack has something on Andy, but what is it? Forced to become a sleuth, she stages a break-in to gather evidence. Rape ups the stakes in this legal thriller.
Andy's ambition drives him to desperate measures. With proof of misconduct in hand, Maggie demands justice, but it comes at a high price.

We Are The Hanged Man- Police Procedural
When the latest hit reality TV show, Britain's Got Justice, needs an expert police panellist, DCI Robert Jericho's boss thrusts him into the media spotlight, knowing full well that Jericho has been desperate to avoid the limelight since his wife's unexplained disappearance ten years ago.
With the press now hounding his every move, there's nowhere to hide.
Meanwhile, a killer, newly released from prison, resumes the bone-chilling handiwork for which he was locked away thirty years earlier.
Sinister tarot cards turn up on Jericho's desk, each one more grotesque than its predecessor. As he investigates a series of seemingly unrelated deaths, he becomes aware that a noose is gradually tightening around his throat.
Someone is setting him up for a neck-breaking fall.

Tex-Mex Recipes - 100 Recipes to Spice Up Your Appetite- Cookbook

That's my picks up to book #66. Gotta take Ms Beauty out, but I'll be back later...

***One free from my wish list:
Long Shadows (The Assassins Trilogy)
Two years since the demise of Troubleshooters, the FBI's attempts to hunt down Fleischmann's assassins have come to nothing: all except Beta and Kappa are dead - and they have disappeared. Agent Ferdinand Marquez is on a mission to find them and discover the truth behind Troubleshooters' missing files.
Hunted by a CIA Black Ops division, Daniel Santerre must find Morgan - warned that in order to expose the Special Projects he may become a mirror image of the very people he seeks to bring down. Their mission will result in a trail of bloodshed and the resurrection of the CIA's deadliest assassin.
Sometimes the shadows of our past reach out and touch us no matter how long we stand in the light... And old sins cast long shadows.

Hey Ken Hensley- Would you mind removing your post? While I believe some may find your book to be helpful, Amazon says it's a no no for authors to promote their own works in the Kindle forum. You need to go to the Meet our Authors section for that.

Posters here will think more kindly of you if you do remove it as it will show you intend to follow the rules and if someone from here takes your book, I'm sure they'll provide a link. If you let the post sit there people will probably pass your book right by or Amazon will remove it for you and that doesn't look good...

ETA- Thanks Ken. Removing it yourself upon request makes you one of the good guys in my book...
