Welcome to Al's Place
Those who wonder how Al's Place came to be can search out the details in the original posts of our third and fourth threads. There you'll find how Anne-Marie, BigAl, and Jstmgn came to start this runaway train. But we've reached the point where the how and why is ancient history in internet terms. The most important question is, now what? What are we? What have we become and, given recent changes in the rules of the Amazon forums, how will we change?
We're a group of readers and authors who view Al's Place as a sanctuary for everyone to relax and chat. What do we talk about here? Books and our Kindles, obviously -- but you'll find the conversations could go almost anywhere. Imagine a neighborhood bar full of a more-literate-than-average group of warped misfits and you'll have us pegged. If you're an author on your first visit, don't hesitate to tell us - but don't post a link or list your books - that violates Amazon's rules.
You'll find that longtime patrons have some inside jokes that have developed. If you're confused about our obsession with bears, UFC fighter John Fitch, Canadian Geese, or any reference that sounds too much like an episode of Seinfeld or Cheers, just ask. Someone will clue you in.
Be nice. If Doodles says you're getting out of line, you're pushing your luck. An edit of your post is probably in order. If Anne-Marie says you're getting out of line ... never mind, won't happen.
The Surgeon General has determined that Al's Place could cause restlessness, sleeplessness, pain in sides and bum, strained eyesight, fear of Canadian Geese, and has proven fatal for young email accounts.
Don't try to read every post. Only a few of the most foolhardy even try. (Yes, I'm looking at you. And you. You too.)
If you decide to click the "track discussion" button on the top right of this screen or the "receive e-mail when new posts are made" button in the reply form we won't be held responsible for the results. Only a masochist or someone looking for evidence would bother.
Also, given the speed of conversation at times, please click the "reply to this post" button on the bottom left when responding to something previously said. This keeps it much easier for people to understand what you're talking about.
Last, our slogan -- it's in the disclaimers for a reason. "Al's Place: Keeping writers from their writing since July 22, 2010"
