My advice to anyone asking that sort of question is to buy as much storage space as you can afford.

Depends how much you plan to store on the tablet. Always buy as much storage space as you can afford. More space is always better then running out.

I understand I'm in the minority here, but 16 Gigs is still a lot, especially with the Amazon Cloud service. Now if you want to Keep more than a couple of movies or store thousands of songs it may be worthwhile to get the extra memory. Books and apps for the most part just don't take up much memory, but movies and music can be dumped back to the cloud until needed

Always buy the most expensive one you can afford. The more memory the better.

One never needs the extra memory... until they need it and say "I shoulda bought the extra memory!"

But I haven't heard that complaint much from the Original Kindle Fire which has 8 gig.

I have read a lot of complaints when people tried adding extra apps and it was out of memory for them. I have a Toshiba Thrive 8GB which I could easily run out of room on if it didn't have an SD card slot for extra memory.

But it didn't have an extra memory option.

16 GB is plenty for most people. See the 5th post in the thread from Liberty Spirit.

I have just got a new KFHD with 16 Gb. Only 12.5 were initially available for my use. Having added 150 music tracks, a few books and some apps I only show 2.5 Gbs remaining! I feel there is a software problem here, and I am sure John Hodgkinson will be able to comment. I do not think less than 150 music tracks should take nearly 7 Gb although many are long classical tracks.

I went for the 32Gb 8.9 for the reasons listed above. I even have a 32Gb sd card working well on my Kindle first generation--yes, the one from 2007 that had an sd slot. It's like closet space in the house. You never have enough and however much you have, it soon fills up.

If you go to settings device storage it will display how much storage is used by different categories. Mine shows 1.2 Gb used for music and I haven't downloaded any music - only used the Cloud player. Maybe its a caching thing, but something doesn't add up.
