Hi Veera,

Sadly, you are correct. Amazon hasn't got the legal rights to sell Fires outside the U.S. yet. It says that on the product page, but many people have missed it; you are not alone:

"To purchase, download, or stream movies and TV shows, you must be physically present in the U.S. and have a U.S. billing address."

You will be able to get a refund though. If you've saved the packing slip, the return instructions will be on that. You can also get assistance from Kindle Support - click "Help" on the top of this screen, then "Contact Us" on the right.

I'm sorry you and your husband had a disappointing Christmas present!

Blessing to you...

Ms Galavan says:
is there any way it will work? also why ship them to countries that they won't work in?

Veera, you are talking to other customers here. We cannot give you a "full refund". Since you didn't purchase the Fire from Amazon (as Amazon doesn't ship to Trinidad), you will have to contact where you bought the unit.

CBRetriever says:
Amazon doesn't ship them, if you bought it in Trinidad, you likely bought it from some 3rd party vendor

I'd suggest looking into goodereader, 1mobile and getjar for apps (for instructions on how to do that, google sideloading kindle apps - it's not that hard)

because they don't.

Amazon does not "ship them to countries that they won't work in". You must have purchased the Fire from a third party. Amazon has not control over where third parties sell the units.

You can purchase and side load apps - use the search box on the right to search for other threads with the instructions. Be sure to uncheck "Seach only this discussion". You can access the internet but not stream movies, etc from Amazon.

Really did not know that it wouldn't work.

The item was purchased online...at amazon. It was shipped to a US address and was brought to us.

Dittie says:
Here's what that product page says under "Important Information about use outside the U.S."

"If you're traveling with Kindle Fire, you can access any content you've downloaded to your device or shop for new books and magazines anytime you like.

With a U.S. credit card, you'll also be able to purchase new apps and music for Kindle Fire while you are abroad.

To purchase, download, or stream movies and TV shows, you must be physically present in the U.S. and have a U.S. billing address."

You circumvented the process to get one where it's not even available. You should have looked into it before you did that.

So the same thing would apply to any of the games/apps as well, unless you live in the US, you cannot download anything other than books then?

Well, Veera, that is how you got around the Amazon shipping restrictions. But, that does not change the restrictions on its use where you live,as plainly stated on the product page.

Ms Galavan says:
it was purchased from Amazon directly and shipped to the UK. also I phoned Amazon support before I purchased and was assured it would work.

Return it for a refund then.

Your profile indicates that you are in Ireland, not the UK.

perhaps the easiest way would be to ship it to the U.S. address and have them add content, and ship it back to you each time.

since it worked as a get-around the first time, i'm pretty sure that would work again.

It never occurred to you that there was a reason Amazon wouldn't ship to you?????
