**Meya** says:
There is no driver. Just close that error/message window. The Fire should be seen as a removable drive in My Computer.

The Fire needs to be on and awake. You don't need any other software or utility to connect the Fire.

Although with Windows XP, you do have to have Windows Media Player 11 installed to transfer to the Kindle via USB. More info:

Try a different USB port.

Not sure if this will work. My Kindle said to just right click on the drive and then tell it to disconnect. It worked for me and then would allow it to stream data to my kindle. As this info is free your mileage may vary. or may not work at all. dray

the thing is that when i connect the usb it is doing the usual noise inform me that i have added an external drive. but i cannot find the drive anywhere on my computer or anywhere else on my pc. when i check the icon at the bottom of the screen to safely remove hardware i can see it.

I just got my Fire HD and my Windows 7 computer wouldn't recognize it. Kindle help suggested using a different micro usb cable, so I used one that came with an older Kindle and was able to connect. This should not be necessary- the HD cable should work. I'm going to post a support issue.

I put in a support inquiry with Amazon and they gave me a credit to purchase a new USB cable to fix this issue.
