I loved my Kindle Touch that I got a year ago, and was hoping that the Paperwhite would be the same but with a superior backlighting technology as Amazon claimed. Sadly, there is some bad and very noticeable backlight bleed on the bottom, which makes it very distracting at any backlight level that isn't dark.

I will be sending this one back to Amazon, which is unfortunate since I had such high hopes for it. I guess you get what you pay for, which is not a lot in this case...

I had also ordered one for my sister for X-mas (backordered) but will be canceling that order now. What a product fail.

Impetigo - Well, I guess you must have gotten a really defective one considering that the Paperwhite isn't backlit.

It's lighted on the front from the bottom bezel. There is some shadowing which is diminished greatly if you turn down the light some.

1) The PW is front lit, not back lit

2) If by "bleed" you mean the shadows at the bottom, that is normal & caused by the LED lights at the bottom.

Thanks for letting us know you are sending it back.

Backlight, frontlight... doesn't matter. That's just semantics and nomenclature. The problem with the uneven lighting is that it is noticeable and distracting. I will take some pictures of it and link it here in a little bit so you can all see for yourself.
