Bonnie,

It -- what is "it"?

Purchase -- purchase what?

Have you registered your device?
Do you have a US credit card or debit card assigned to your Amazon account?

As someone else 'round here says, "You aren't having to pay by the word." PLEASE provide more information, so someone may try to help you.

Thanks.

You can always contact Kindle support - click on help at the top or bottom of any Amazon page and then the contact us button on the next page. I suggest using phone or live chat for quickest response.

I am also having trouble purchasing apps on my new kindle. I've tried several different cards that work anywhere else. I've also tried entering my address again through the edit tab. no matter what I try my kindle says I need to enter my 1- click payment address. I've messed with it at least once or twice daily for the past week. I'm not a tech genius but definitely not a dummy either (set up home network, manage all home devices, etc)

Your default shipping address information must exactly match the billing address information of the one-click credit or debit card on file.

Edit to clarify

Are you in the US?

I am in the US and have no trouble purchasing & receiving items through Amazon website until I tried purchasing on my new kindle under the same Amazon account.

Did you read my comment above? Check for a middle initial or something like "Street" vs. "St."

You added your comment as I was typing. the only difference is that the kindle automatically adds a 4 digit code after my zip code despite me deleting address & entering the address again without the 4 digit number.

If you're certain that's the default shipping address, then I really don't have any other ideas. Sorry. Your next best bet is to contact Kindle customer service. Click the blue Help link near the center at the top of this page. Then click the giant yellow Contact Us button, and have them call you.

I deregistered my kindle & re- registered without changing my payment info & now it works like a charm.
