I opened my "new" Kindle Fire this morning. The charge was almost full. It's at 29% right now plugged into a wall outlet. I have tried four different outlets and both wall/computer charging. The device settings say charging but it is going down not up. Any ideas?

On another note, why is the sound so bad (low) in the Kindle Fire?

Thank you!

StevieD, which Fire do you have and are you using the QuickFast charger that Amazon sells? How low is "low" on the sound? The new Fires, especially the HD's have really good volume.

Sounds like you possibly received a defective device.

Old Rocker, thanks for your response. I have the 2012 Kindle Fire (non-HD). I'm not using the charger Amazon sells, I have one from Jabra. I understand it may be slower not using the Amazon version but it can't loose charge right?

The sound is half of what our iPad puts out. With headphones on its better of course. But forget about holding and listening in any normal environment. The HD versions have those nice speakers.

Is there any printing on the Jabra charger that indicates the output in Amps or miliamps? It should be at least 1.5A for it to charge while using. The USB charger is only about 700mA or so, so it might not charge while actually being used.

As far as the speakers are concerned, I don't have the 2nd gen Fire (I have a 1st gen and an HD 8.9), so I don't have a reference point. If the volume is not adequate, you might want to contact Amazon for a replacement. If the replacement is still inadequate, you might consider returning it and upgrading to an HD.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

@Stevie: If it is switched on and doing things while charging that way, the battery could very well go down.

I think that you need to use the large orange Contact Us button to the right to contact Amazon Kindle CS and talk with them about it - use the live chat or the call back feature if you can, not email. If you can't see a Contact Us button on this page, then go to and contact CS. I advise using Live Chat or the Call Me Back feature and not email, as they will have your account details available to them immediately when you talk with them.

Yes, the Jabra is 1.0A, so maybe that's why. I tried it with my computer (USB) also and that did nothing. I will contact Amazon tomorrow and see what they say. Thank you very much!

John, thank you. I will do just that!

Are you just letting it charge while it's off, or are you using it while it's charging?

I recently got a Fire HD and I remember reading somewhere that it may or may not charge while it's in use, depending on what you're using it for at the time.

Charlene, I plug it in and let it just sit there. The screen stays on for some reason at times, other times it goes to sleep. Thanks!
