I am strongly considering getting a kindle fire HD but I am wondering do you have to be connected to the internet in order to read books you have bought and have downloaded?

CBRetriever says:
no, not as long as you've downloaded them - I usually turn my wireless off when I'm not suing it

Please help me. I am trying to organize my collection. I want to print all my books on paper. I do not know how to shrink my books. I attempted to print but it prints 7 per page showing the covers. I have 1,000 books and it would take 150 pages and I want to condense it. I thought I could read books under 100 pages and save the most for later.
Do you have any thoughts or ideas about my plan? Also it's a good possibilty that you have a better way.

What exactly do you want to do? Print books or print a list of your books?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 20, 2012 4:01:09 AM PST
CBRetriever says:
the only way I know is to write it all to a pdf and the copy and paste special (text) but then you'd have to do a lot of editing afterwards

or maybe something like calibre could help you?

T. Cook says:
Set your printer settings to print 2 pages per page and also print double sided, that should use 150/4 pages of paper.

Go to Your Account here on Amazon.

Go to Digital Items and click Your Collection.

Choose to "View" your Kindle Items. You can print your list from there.

CBRetriever says:
that's where all the pages come from - they're formatted to show 8-10 books per page

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 20, 2012 6:13:15 AM PST
Really? I could have sworn I got at least a display list up once. I was going to print it, but even the list view was *cough* long. Hmmmn... I wonder what I was thinking about, then...

Folina - you can print a list of all your books from shelfari. I.m sure other similar programs will do it as well.

I like Shelfari as it imports all my stuff with no effort from me. Then, go to profile, select library, and ask to make the list.

Choose "View Thin List".

It's there.

Oh, I'm not interested in printing it. I was just trying to help out.

But again, for those who would like to, without importing/exporting/etc:

Go to Your Account here on Amazon (NOT MYK),
Scroll down to Digital Content,
Click Your Collection,
Toggle to "books",
Then find the little icons that show tiles, or lists.
Choose "Thin List".

Print away.

Edited for better instructions.

CBRetriever says:

There's a great big PRINT button. Mine printed. Well, I had to yank the paper tray out to stop it, but it printed.

There's something wrong. It works where I'm sitting.

ETA: No c&P, just hit the print button.

I wonder if it's the browser that make the difference. ?

Or, in the Thin List view, copy, then right-click, choose print, then mark "selection only".

That works, too.

CBRetriever says:
yeah, it prints wonderfully, but she's looking to print w/o the covers

I've never been able to print the short list, just the formatted pages with 8 books per page

Ugh. Dang. :0/

I just re-tested the c&p on the "thin view" on my son's (much smaller) account; by highlighting, then NOT "copy", but right-click and "print" then "selection", I was able to get it to work that way.

You're not opening a pasted document, just printing from the highlight. Does that make sense?

ETA: I'm like a dog with a bone, now. It's going to bug me until everyone can print their book lists!

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 20, 2012 6:45:46 AM PST
I have tried that but it doesn't print that way. It continues to print with the covers on them. I have also tried clicking the box beside the title but that does nothing. It goes right back to the covers.

I guess I just have to give up. I have tried everything possible short of throwing it on concrete and stepping on it. Thanks for your help though. I miss the Touch going to the last page read. Now I have to start all over and guess where I left off etc, etc.

Okay. I DID do it; I'm LOOKING at the printed result.

Once you have it in "Thin View", highlight the books.

Hover over one of the words "Amazon" in the middle, there (NOT over one of the linky links!)

THEN! Right-click, and choose print.

THEN! Click the bubble that says "Selection Only". Then Print.

that'll work - still gonna take a while, but it'll work

yeah, I fooled around with trying to get it into a spreadsheet for someone once and that was a nightmare - then they wanted prices and i said there's no way to that one except for hand entering the prices
