i'm mailing my old kindle for a replacement. do i need to deregister my old kindle?
if i deregister my old kindle, my kindle books will still remain in my library, right?

Rosanna - Your account owns your books, not your Kindle. You won't lose any books. Reset it to factory defaults. This will remove all content and personal settings and deregister it from your account.

For e-ink Kindles:
Menu > Settings > Menu > Reset to Factory Defaults.

For Fires:
Settings > More > Device > Reset to Factory Defaults.

Thanks! Just making sure. I don't want to click on something wrong and lose everything in a blink. :)

Rosanne - You're welcome.

pineapple...sorry for this follow-up question...UPS is asking what sort of batteries the kindle 6 in (old) e-ink display uses. apparently, they have shipping restrictions.

Rosanna - They are lithium batteries. But that shouldn't be a concern. The Post Office used to have a restriction on them, but they don't any more.

Are you using the free return shipping label that Amazon emailed to you?

Have you actually arranged to send back the Kindle with Amazon? You don't have to send it back until you get the new one. You send it back in the replacement's box using a shipping label Amazon provides.

If they were dilithium you could use it to power a starship.

Hi, Phillip! How are you?

I'm not dead yet, so that's a plus. You?

Same. ;-)

Rosanna Misa says:
Yes I'm using the free return shipping label. UPS has that battery precaution form that needed filling up. Thanks for the tip. Ok, I will wait till I get my replacement kindle. Many thanks again for your help. :-)

Old Rocker says:
shhh we're quietly confiscating dilithium for a little fun project. Texas on Mars. We've welded together a large number of storage tanks for the capsule and living quarters and supplies and gasses. We've welded together oilbarrels for rockets.

Them yankees don't like it, then try to stop us.

You have something against the Yankees? What about the Mets?

Hi Pineapple. I failed to include the RMA in my return package. I, however, printed and sent the waybill and the three copies of the succeeding page. I hope there will not be a problem on the receiving end. I did call the toll free number and they assured me that they have noted the concern and it shouldn't be a problem. I just wanted to make sure that things will go smoothly despite my oversight.

I'm working on some "Welcome To Mars" signs and posters we can carry with us to give to the Martians to greet us with when we get there.
