my formerly working Kindle reader for Mac OS X 10.5 stopped working, and it seems there is no replacement. Why?

Amazon now states the requirements are OS X 10.6 and above for the Kindle app - also there is a separate download for a 10.5 version - the link to that will be towards the bottom of the link below

Does anyone know another link for the Kindle app for OS X 10.5.8? The link provided by amazon (see below) doesn't seem to work.

That link is indeed valid. I just tried it and it worked fine.

I found the link on amazon and downloaded, but it won't open for me. Keeps saying, "The application Kindle quit unexpectedly. mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple." Is there an even older version out there? I had one that used to work. But don't know which version it was.

The link still seems to be working. Downloaded immediately when I clicked on it. In the middle of downloading books. I'm assuming that they will open and the program works properly, etc. If not, will post back.

This download definitely DOES NOT WORK on Mac OS X 10.5 on a Powerbook G4! Looks like this machine is now officially a dinosaur. ARRGGHH!

I also am having trouble, I have a mac 10.5.8 and my computer is only 3 years old. I didn't think that was old enough to not have a software version for it :( The link Richard provided goes to a 10.6 version, not 10.5 too. Did Amazon get rid of that download?

Check your download folder, you may still have an older kindleformac.dmg. The version I now know works with MacOS 10.5.8 is Kindle Version 1.5.1. (Check this by choosing Get Info on the Kindle App on the DMG) Then if you have 1.5.1, after installing in Applications folder, go to Preferences and UNCHECK automatic updates.

I made the mistake of updating my kindle ap that was working perfectly well with my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard. After reading here that the old version Kindle for Mac I had was 1.5.1 I was able to download it here:

http://mac.brothersoft.com/kindle-download.html

So far it works fine.

BTW, because of this and various other reasons I decided to upgrade my OS to 10.6 Snow Leopard. Its no longer available from the Apple Store but if you call Apple Support, they'll sell you a copy for only $21. I highly suggest to do this to prevent your machine from becoming prematurely obsolete. If your Mac is compatible and you also plan on eventually upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion apple requires your OS to be at least 10.6 Snow Leopard.

Downloaded 1.5.1 and it has a no-entry sign on it. I am using an Apple eMac G4 running OS X 10.5.8

Amazon is being terrible. G5's are perfectly good machines to read ebooks on!!

It is not like it would cost them that much in development to release a reader for the G5. Amazon look, I have spent over $1,000 in books for the last few years, each year. Fix this and while you are at it, give the android app the ability to organize book collections like the pc app.

YOu might want to be more specific in your request. Do you need help finding the App? Have you tried to install it and it didn't' work? What happened when you tried? Details are your friend.
