I have a Kindle Fire HD.
Want to organize the books by type (romance, mystery, etc.).
Any tips?

The Fire does not support Collections.

There is no way to do that on the Fires. They do not have the collections feature as it is a Android tablet and the Android Kindle app does not have that feature.

Amazing a device developed to be ereader does not offer way to organize books without using 3rd party ap. Nook allows you to easily create as many " shelves" as you want, I have mine organized by genre and also by read and unread. More surprising is that users have been. begging for this feature for yrs, and Amazon has not offered update. I don't know how folks with 100s of downloaded books organize them.

I'm not sure why you are bringing back to life this thread. You don't seem to be asking a question.

If you really want to know, there are various ways of organizing books. Some use Calibre. Some use GoodReads or ... I would suggest using the search box on the right to see all the threads and possible ways of organizing books. Be sure to uncheck "Search only this discussion".

Since I don't have just 100s of books but 1000s of books in my library, I use Calibre.

Ever the optimist, I thought if even kf users keep requesting a way to organize books, Amazon might develop an ap/update for it. Hoping to contribute to the "critical mass" of complaints that might then get them to move on this.

That might work if you were talking to Amazon. This is an unmoderated forum that Amazon does not follow. If you wish to let Amazon know, instead of just other customers, then use one of these emails -

I'm very happy to see this thread, I've been asking friends with Kindle Fires if there was a way to organize your books on the KF and none of them could tell me. I was seriously considering moving from my Nook to a KF but if they cannot offer a way to organize my collections without going to a 3rd party app I will wait until that feature is added. Maybe if enough customers see these threads and bring it to Amazon's attention they will do something about it.

I just bought a new kf hd, thinking they MUST have incorporated a way to organize books. But, no, nothing, even in most recent iteration of kf hd (just bought about a month ago). Tired of waiting for Amaz to create update w/this feature, I broke down and downloaded 3rd party app. Works fine, but I still am amazed that a device made to hold 1000s of books does not provide any way to organize them. Using 3rd party app means you have to go to apps section or favorites in order to access organized books. I too had Nook, and created numerous different "shelves" to organize books. Ridiculous that kf does not have similar feature, and, even after avalanche of complaints, has done nothing about it. You can register your concern with

What app did you end up getting?

I was going to ask the same thing.

I got the free one, just called Book Collections, avail in app store. Very simple, you create & name folders, then move book into folder. Not as good as what comes with Nook - Nook gives you "shelves" that you name, and you can see all the book covers on each shelf w/out opening any folders. And, you can place same book on multiple shelves -- eg on Unread shelf and also on Classics shelf and/or Mystery shelf, etc. I have not been able to find a way to put single book in mulitple folders. Maybe you can with a diff app (one you pay for). There are similar apps for 2.99, but they don't get any better reviews than free one. And, I refused to pay for app that should be incorporated into original design!
