My kindle touch is done for, it seems

Hello all,

I'm a literature professor at a Bulgarian university and for the past year I have used my Kindle Touch extensively. A couple of hours ago almost exactly a quarter of its screen stopped refreshing.

Browsed about a bit and learned it's a common and, sadly, irreversible problem. My predicament, however, is that I got it almost exactly a year ago as a Christmas gift from a friend who'd bought it at a retail store somewhere in Colorado. He then brought it to me in Bulgaria.

Neither he, nor I am going back to Colorado so I'm not sure what to do. Does Amazon have a refund of replace policy in such cases?

I'm quite certain I haven't dropped it ever in the one year I've had it and I've kept it in good condition.

Thanks in advance :)

I think that Amazon will honor warranty replacement regardless of the channel through which the device was bought, but the only way to find out for sure is contacting CS:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/contact-us?ie=UTF8&nodeId=508510&

I suggest that you use chat during US Pacific business hours.

They don't have a refund policy. They just have a replacement policy. You would need to contact customer support by clicking on the Help link at the top. Not sure what they can do for you in the country you are in.

My guess is that Amazon will replace it, probably even pay for shipping, but customs details, taxes etc will be the owner's responsibility. BTW, Bulgaria is an EU country.

I know where it is I just don't know all the countries Amazon ships to.

Well, let's hope so. Thank you all so far :)
You suggest chatting with them then, as opposed to sending an e-mail?

It is a lot faster to talk with them to get this done. It sounds like the warranty is almost over with depending on the purchase date. Do not email them.

If you email with something like this, their response will be to call them or use live chat. (I tried it once)

Exactly.

EU as in European Union, not merely Europe. But yes, it is still conceivable that some restrictions apply, as in the case of Fire.
