Is it worth spending the extra $20 for the $139 version of the Kindle Paperwhite?

R. D. Clark says:
Buy the cheaper one. If you don't like the special offer sleep screens and the small ad at the bottom of the main menu screen, you can then pay the $20 to unsubscribe. That's the only difference.

I don't find the ads annoying at all. Mostly I don't pay any attention to them. Save you money.

I don't pay any attention to the ads.....they don't interfere with anything. I agree: save your money! But another book or two!

I usually ignore them most of them of the time but every so often I find a good deal on a book. So they can be helpful.

I will add my 2¢ and say the same thing. I don't even notice the ads. Which ... maybe I shouldn't say! But they don't bother me at all.

Why is it worth it? They seem to be the same. Thank you for your advice.

Thanks to all of you for your valued opinions, I spent the extra money , but mostly, wish I hadn't, just ordered it tough, so we will see! Thanks again all!

Without the ads your Paperwhite will open directly to the book in progress rather than the home screen, no swipe to open will be needed.

It will actually open to the screen you were on when you put the Kindle to sleep. Personally I always go to the homepage when finished reading.

If you don't go to the homepage after you finish reading and for some reason the Kindle crashes or reboots it will take you to the last place your reading progress was saved. This could be several pages back or even several chapters.
