Who prices the books?

I just ordered "The Rebels" by John Jakes for my Kindle and paid $9.49. The paperback edition is listed for $9.99. However, when I visited John Jakes' homepage, I can order the book for $7.99! What's up, Amazon???

anyway, I believe there's a tell us about a lower price link below the Product details - click that and then wait - often Amazon will match the lower price (that may just be for a B&N book, though)

The paperback from Signet is $7.99. The e-book from Open Road has a link to the various resellers including Amazon where the price is $9.49.

Out of curiosity I looked it up. If one actually tries to buy the ebook through the website, one is simply directed to various book sellers
Amazon 9.49
Apple 9.99
B&N 10.49
Google 9.99
Kobo 10.09
Sony 11.99

Looks like the 7.99 is an old price on the author's page that has never been updated.

I did that, too. The $7.99 ISBN is the Signet paperback but I don't see a hot link to actually buy that anyway. That isn't to say it's not there, just that I couldn't find it.

I used to think it was the publisher/author who set prices. Now I know it is The Magic Price Fairy.

That $7.99 is for an older edition mass paperback that is no longer in print. The current mass market is $9.99.
