To those of you who already have the Kindle Paperwhite, does it allow you to download games or apps on it? I am buying it for my son primarily as a reader, but he will also want to have games on it as well. Thanks!

T. Cook says:
Of course, but the Apps/Games it uses are "Kindle Active Content" programs, so no Angry Birds or things like that.
For example:
Every Word

ETA: Just sort it by "Price Low to High" to see all the free games.

So these games won't work, Baby Adopter, Brightwood Adventures, Line Runner, Monster Park, Netflix, Pandora, Temple Run, and Tiny Monsters.?

No, those are Android games for tablets. The e-ink Kindles do not run Android...

If those are games for Fires, or any other android device, they will not work on PaperWhites.

Thompson. The paperwhtie is a eink device, it cannot do any video at all so it cannot do Netflix or any game that needs fast video.

The Paperwhite is not a tablet so it cannot run any Android apps. You have to use the active content from the Kindle book store and most those are word type games, card games, simple games, etc.

Throw us a bone here amazon. An rss reader app like feedly would be a good start and maybe a reader for the browser. hey why not just open it up so people can make their own apps. theres already thousands of android apps that would be great for our humble epaper kindle

Do you read the previous posts that explained that eInk Kindles don't run android apps?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 25, 2013 5:37:05 AM PDT
And even if it was *possible*, which it's not, since the e-ink Kindles and tablet Fires run on completely different systems, it would be app ~developers~ to whom you would need to appeal. Amazon just sells the stuff. They don't write the code.

Please note that Kindle Active Content is only available in the USA!

or at least I've hard them talking about it (I can't see their either)

No, USA only - according to Kindle Store's own website.

I don't know. I got the Kindle Paperwhite to read books. If I wanted to play games I would have bought a Fire.

Not just for games but it seems like a waste to have 3G and not be able to download curated content through apps like Pocket

The Paperwhite is the recent upgrade to the Touch. You would have to check places like eBay, Craig's list, etc for a Touch.

I'm looking to get this for my mom as a Christmas present. Right now she uses her iPad and an app that connects her to our county's library system, where she can download books for free for a limited time. Does Kindle support something like that?
