There is no button for the comma...not even in the number and symbols menu. The only way to access it is to hold down on the period and select it from a pop up menu...which is annoying and slows down my typing.

Is something wrong with my kindle?

J. Franklin says:
touch the numbers button on the bottom left hand side. The comma will be next to the space bar on the left.

Frank B. says:
I tried that but there is only a period next to the space bar. It doesn't show a comma.

J. Franklin says:
On mine, the period is to the right and the comma is to the left. If it isn't like that on yours, I'd call customer service.

This should help explain what I'm talking about.

I've taken pictures of my keyboard, and you can see that nowhere on the layout is a button for a comma. It only shows up in the area where suggestions are offered for words you're typing, and I can access it by holding down on the period button and getting the pop-up menu.

Does anyone else's keyboard look like this? It doesn't seem right.

Press the symbol key as has been explained and a new keyboard pops up with the comma to the left of the spacebar. Use it and hit abc to return to letters.

There is also a comma directly over the Q in your picture.

In the link I posted, there's a picture of my screen when I did that. There is no comma.

Frank B. says:
That's the problem. There should be a comma on the actual keyboard and not in the area where it provides suggestions for the words you're typing.

Something must really be wrong then. I took those pictures with my camera and uploaded them directly to Imgur.

I looked at the picture. while not a keyboard there are options there to press comma.
Are you saying you press that and it did not work?

The keyboards pop-up differently with different programs. My keyboard from Google has a slash to the left of the space bar then a period, then .com. My Yahoo keyboard has a comma to the left. Must depent on which program you are typing into.

Frank B. says:
That may be the issue. I'll check around on some different programs and see what's going on.

Is anyone else unable to see the comma on their keyboard when using their internet browser?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 27, 2012 3:02:24 PM PDT
Frank B. says:
No. What I'm saying is that there is no comma on the keyboard. That doesn't seem normal, and I'm just wondering if this is a common thing.

Mark Twain says:
There is a comma above the q on your keyboard in the picture. They also combined it with the period key.

I was sceptical when I saw this post yesterday, but now I sympathize.
I just manually installed version 6.3 and now my keyboard does not have a comma button. I've tried it in both the Silk and Dolphin browsers.

The comma does appear on the "hints" line in certain contexts (like after I hit the space bar) but it is not there when I need it. Clicking or double clicking the 123!? key does not display it.

I'm thinking this is a serious bugin this new release.

Weird. I still have my comma. Very weird.

Even weirder, this morning my comma has also disappeared/moved.

Not crazy about this. But I'm sure we'll adapt. At least, I will. :-)

I got the new 6.3 installed tonight and my comma is missing as well. It will show up on the hints bar is I press space, but it is no longer a button on my keyboard. It is showing on the right top corner of the period button in gray, but it isn't an option when I switch to symbols.

I just found this discussion after noticing the same thing myself. Quite a bug. It certainly isn't ideal to have to grab it from the hints bar, I hope it gets fixed quickly.

The comma is ON the period key. To type a comma, hold the period slightly longer than a tap.

If you examine the new keyboard you will see the numbers on the top row. You type them the same way - slightly longer tap. I think I like it.

TerryB says:
You don't need to switch to symbols or press the space bar.
When the hints bar, instead of the punctuation bar, appears, just tap that bar and the punctuation bar will appear again.

T. Shelter says:
I realize there are ways to get to the comma, they just are not GOOD ways to get to it. It slows down typing. However I will say it appears the space bar moved slightly to the right which has greatly improved my chances of not hitting the period instead of space, which caused me to put periods instead of spaces between words, so maybe its a good trade off.

Tom Arnone says:
I see the 6.3 upgrade placed the comma, along with several other characters, on a pop-up when you long-press the period button. I prefer the comma where it was -- but I do understand the logic behind the change. It will, however, take some getting used to....
