How do I turn off the 'special offers'.

This is getting annoying. Every time I go wireless I get new advertisements that I don't want to see. I'd like to go back to the standard random screen savers. Anyone know how to turn the ads off?

Return it for one that doesn't have the special offers.

you can't - the version of the kindle that you have is called the Kindle w/ Special Offers (KSO) - in return for getting a discounted price on the kindle, you agreed to have the sponsored ads as the screen-saver

You can't.

You do realize that you have an AD SUPPORTED Kindle, right? It was cheaper than the Kindle with the standard screensavers because it has the ads.

Did you get the Kindle as a gift and didn't know about this? (Please say yes... please say yes... please say yes...)

Don't be so stone hearted, persona non grata! Perhaps Grant got his Kindle as a gift, as Erich hopes...

How long do you stare at the sleep screen? As soon as you read a book there is nothing to bother you. New ads are sent every 4 to seven days. Some of them are quite valuable. Doesn't bother me at all. Because I spend more time reading than looking at an ad...just like on TV. I begin watching a show about 10 minutes late so that I can use my dvr and FF through the commercials. Easy-peasy.

i would like to think so too,
but im betting not, sorry but i am so sick and tired of whiners,
first the price is too high, so amazon made a different version with ads, now they complain about the ads, its frustrating to say the least,
most of "these" type of threads wouldnt even exist if the buyer actually read about what they buying...
i wouldnt buy a book without reading the description why do people buy ereaders without reading the product page?
i KNOW i will get slammed but idiots are idiots and nothing you or i can say will change the fact that they are idiots

Just enjoy the offers, there are some good ones. I've noticed people on other boards asking for the codes because they don't have a special offers version.

Oh, that must just be SO dreadful. :) I have a feeling these posters are just yanking our chains. I mean, who would want the "standard random screen savers" if they'd ever seen them before. :0

Umm, you have a point. OTOH, another poster reported another day those adds more appealing sleep mode images than the "regular" ones...

Some of those author's pictures are just kinda creepy. Yeah, she's the type to be in your worst nightmare chasing you through the woods with a chainsaw.

You're not kidding. Some are downright scary! The current laptop offer has a cute little puppy looking at a laptop. How is that offensive or obtrusive in any way?

I am. In fact, I checked their 'select' laptops, sure they'd be the older models, but instead, the very one I'd been dreaming about was listed. Thanks to the offer, I can now get it without feeling guilty. :D

You can pay to remove them. Go to https://www.amazon.com/gp/digital/fiona/manage, click 'Manage your Devices' and under the 'Special Offers' column, next to Subscribed, click edit. You can then pay $30 to disable the special offers on your Kindle. (Tip thanks to Ben Hiller on Quora).

Viveka - The OP's post is dated in August before the new Baby Kindle came out with that option on it.

As far as I am aware he should still be able to do this. It is essentially a "subscription" to the ad updates and he should still be able to pay the $30.00 to unsubscribe.
