Our Kindle Touch is automatically downloading some provacative books even with Wifi turned off. How do you stop this? It is very distrubing to the point that I am about to return it if it does not stop. I am not at all interested in Lesbian lovers

How can they download without a connection? Think about it....

AmeliaAT says:
That's physically not possible. And for a sample to download, it had to have been selected and sent. Unless someone else has access to your account information and is somehow sending you samples as a way of harassing you, I don't see how this could happen.

I would go into my Amazon account and change my password.

With your wifi turned off, however, nothing is able to be transferred to your Kindle (unless you plug it into your computer and manually transfer it -- which you would certainly remember doing).

So first, change your password to your Amazon account, and second, be sure that you've actually got the wifi turned off.

Yes, Debra, as Jazzy_Jeff says, nothing can get into your Touch without the Wifi on (or through the cord to your computer). And books can't be automatically chosen for you even if there was a connection. You'll need to do a little more investigating. Do you share your account? Could the other person/people on your account be playing a bad joke on you?

I'm having a really hard time believing you. I think at best, someone else has your password or is on your account. At worst, I think you are lying.

It's NOT possible for books to download to your Kindle without a connection. So even if someone is sending them to you, they wouldn't download until you connected to wireless.

One thing you could do is contact Amazon about this. There have been instances where two devices have accidentally had the same serial number, which could be causing you to get samples that someone else is ordering for their own Kindle. However, the would not download if wireless is turned off.

I AM trying to solve a problem that I am having and was hoping for help so WHAT would be my purpose in lying??? Thank you for the insult that was not necessary. I thought the purpose of this blog was for others to maybe help you not insult you. I have NO reason to lie. It is NOT showing up on Manage your Kindle. I just double checked and it is NOT there! If you cannot help me then please do not add insult to injury.

I'd start by changing my password. When I change my pass I'd look at the myk and make sure that there isn't another device hooked onto my Acct.

Then I'd call cs and see if there is Acct activity that could be looked into.

Debra says:
I will see about the serial number because I just checked again and these items are NOT showing up on my downloads with Amazon. Everything I downloaded even tonight is showing but not these items that I did not authorize. Thank you for the suggestion. That would make sense especially if it has happened before.

What you are saying is not possible. It would be like someone calling your landline when your phone is unplugged.

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 28, 2012 9:37:24 PM PDT
1rst, if this really was happening, you would contact Kindle Customer Service, not a bunch of customers.

2nd, I can add insult to injury, if I so choose.

You posted this on the Internet, where anybody can respond in any way that they so choose & you have no say over it.

Unless there's something wrong with the Kindle that makes it appear that the wifi is off when it is actually on, there is no way that stuff could just appear on the Kindle. It is possible that there is some fault with the device that is keeping the device on all of the time. It's an odd coincidence that you are also getting things sent to your Kindle that you did not click on.

I would definitely change your password. Then I would do two other things: Watch for battery drain. Is the battery draining faster than it should with the wifi turned off. Then I would deliberately send something to the Kindle with the wifi turned off. If it shows up, then you know that there is something wrong with the Kindle that keeps the wifi on even when it says it's off.

Who has access to your kindle? They could deregister it, register to a different account, download samples or books, then register it back to your account. Also, samples do not show up on the manage your kindle page, etc. because you have not purchased them.

Never mind. I thought maybe someone else may have had this problem before I had to call customer service and wait on hold forever. Yes, I have had several that have given me suggestions and for that I am thankful. I am also thankful for the little button that blocks you from my posting. Have a wonderful night because it seems you are a very unhappy person to have to insult others.

Not sure. It is the basic $99.99 Kindle Touch purchased from Best Buy. I do have wireless internet though

In reply to an earlier post on Apr 28, 2012 9:43:57 PM PDT
Debra - If they are samples they won't show on Manage Your Kindle. Samples never do because there has been no transaction or invoice created.

The Artist says:
Debra, samples are not part of your account, so they wouldn't appear on your MYK page.

AmeliaAT says:
You shouldn't have to wait on hold. Go to the contact us page and click the option to have them call you. They'll call you back within minutes -- or even seconds -- and you talk to a live person right away.

However, I still think you should try to send yourself something with the wireless off and see if it arrives. Because then you would know that there was something wrong with the Kindle. The CS will simply tell you that it is impossible for something to end up on the Kindle without the wireless on unless it's manually sideloaded.

Debra says:
Would the free downloads show? I double-checked and I do have some free samples that do show. Is there certain ones that do possibly? I am very new at all of this. I am use to computers and know how they work, but this is different

AmeliaAT says:
Free books show, but samples do not appear in MYK. They only appear on the Kindle.

Posted on Apr 28, 2012 9:47:12 PM PDT
Free downloads would show up on the manage your kindle page if they are purchased for $0.00. All samples are free, and do not show up.

Who else besides you has access to your kindle? I would suggest you try a password temporarily on the kindle itself and see if the problem stops.
