Jessica Abrams, page 2. She said: reset to factory settings / set up WiFi first / register / and start shopping!

Yay! Thanks for the fix Jessica :) You are smarter than Amazon chat help....

Thanks to all for your help. To summarize, delete welcome document, reset to factory defaults, connect to wifi and then register. Amazon should be ashamed of themselves for shipping the Kindle Touch this way.

also had the problem registering; Fixed per advice; deleted welcome letter, restored to factory defaults, connected wifi, then registered! Wish I would have checked here before wasting time with amazon/kindle customer service!

I have tried the advice per Jessica's post, but still cannot purchase books. When I restore to factory settings, the registration does not get cleared. Any advice?

The 'Jessica -Fix' worked for us too! Thanks for making our Christmas just a little bit merrier :-)

I too had the same problem. Kept telling me I needed to register and I already was. Kept doing it over and over again and maybe on the 5th or 6th try it finally recognized that I was registered. Maybe it was just too busy?? So for right now I am all set. Hope everyone else's probs clear up soon! Merry Christmas

Once I selected "restore factory defaults" the unit has been giving me the "wait a moment" message for 15 minutes. Was that your experience as well, or am I just frozen?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 27, 2011 8:01:14 AM PST
when I did "restore factory defaults", my unit gave me the "wait a moment" for half an hour. I decided to leave it to see if it would ever boot. It still hadn't after 4 hours. the restore factory defaults never worked for me...always gets stuck.

awesome thank you sssooooo much

A. Begun says:
Resetting to factory defaults only takes a few minutes. If it takes longer I would hold the off button until it shuts down and start all over. If you can't figure out how to find and delete the welcome letter, go to documents and check out the instruction manual for the kindle. Do NOT delete the instruction manual. Just delete the welcome letter.
