has anyone purchased a refurshbished kindle fire? what's your thoughts? do you get the same benefits with a new one? i.e. prime

You can be a Prime member without owning a Fire.

I don't know anything about refurbished devices from Amazon. I'd rather buy a new device and get the 1 year warranty, and the 30 days to send it back if it doesn't meet my needs.

A refurb Kindle from Amazon comes with exactly the same warranty and return policy as a new Kindle.

Edit: See http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200875270.

Is looking through all of your Kindle books easier on the Fire then on the regular Kindle. I either have to search, which seems to take forever or simply leaf through page by page to see what I want to read. Thanks!

@Roger - With the e-ink Kindles, you can organize your books into Collections. The Fire doesn't support that feature, so I'd think it would be easier to find books on a 'regular' Kindle.

The Fire is completely different than the e-ink Kindle models. It sounds like you should go to Best Buy or some retail store that carries them so you can look at them in person.

Depending on what Kindle you have, you could set up Collections to sort your books instead of having pages and pages to leaf through.

@harveytwin - You're welcome. I'm thinking about buying one of these myself. A $30. savings on a returned Fire isn't a bad deal.

One more thing.... do you you know if it audible... will it read to me like my 3rd generation keyboard (i think that's the one)

The Fire does not do Text To Speech.

The Fire does not have the text-to-speech functionality for Kindle books. It will play audiobooks, though.

I have a K2 and a Touch, not a Fire (yet). I'm trying to decide if I need one. ;-)

I purchased a refurbished Kindle Fire and it looks (and acts) like brand-new, I have had NO issues with it and the paperwork indicated that it DOES come with the identical warranty as the brand-new unit. True, it was only $20 less (the current price seems to be even less!) which doesn't sound like a lot but I just put the savings towards a Prime membership, so (to me) it was worth the small savings. I would like to be able to find a refurbished Kindle Touch...

I've been meaning to update, like Doug I did make this purchase for the 169.00 price. I have no problems with it whatsoever. I love it. As you can tell I decided to keep for myself.

Yes. I just bought a refurbished fire. I get everything that you would get execpt the start up guide. The best part is that someone has touched it. They had to go threw the fire and rebuild it. It looks new. No marks, no scratches. Just no start up guide. Oh, and I only paid $166. shipped..
