I agree. It worked for me when I had neither cell phone or camera with me but sure isn't my preferred camera.

Basically to get to the camera to take pics, you go on photos and in the top right corner there's a little camera it and it will locate you there..............note it doesn't video but you can download a app on the app store for that

On my Kindle Fire 7 when I go into the photos app there is a small icon in the top corner and click on that and it will let you take only pictures and you cannot turn off flash, I don't know why.

Do you have a Fire or a Fire HD? If you have a Fire there is no camera.

If you have a Fire HD, click on the Photos tab on your Home screen and, provided you have the latest software installed, you'll see a camera icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. Tap that to activate the camera.

Is anyone going to share HOW I locate and use front facing camera, even if it is clumsy and produces a mediocre photo. Good enough for some situations, but I cannot locate it!! SOS please

I got my new Kindle Fire HD and wanted to take some pictures but could not access the camera and was pretty annoyed. I searched amazon app store and came across few useful apps like these ES File Explorer and myCamera HD+ : Kindle Fire Camera +, I was happy at least I can take pictures now. Kindle fire does not have a very high res. camera but using some system and camera apps like these can help you a lot. ES file explorer is a free app and works really well where as myCamera HD+ is a paid app but has many camera options so use it for editing and sharing purpose.

The camera is designed to use with Skype. You can take pictures with it, but it's a front facing camera so either you're in all the pictures, or you need to turn the camera (and the screen) away from you so it's difficult to frame your picture. It's also pretty low resolution. If you have a camera on your phone it's almost certainly better than the one on the Kindle Fire HD.

I am very new to the Kindle Fire HD and I want to take pictures also. So based on what I have been reading from all of the discussions,,,, there is not a normal.... if you please..... camera on the Kindle Fire HD,,,,just for skyping. Did get it right or not??
If there is not a camera for picture taking, I will just use my digital camera. Thanks for all of the very helpful discussions. It is really a great help. But can someone reply with an anwer to my question concerning .... Is there a camera for picture taking on my Kindle Fire HD?. Thanks again.

Enrico C. says:
Camera App Instructions (only applies to Kindle Fire devices with camera)

You need to update your Kindle Fire HD to the latest firmware (7.2.3 at the time of writing).
Once your device is up to date, you can access camera app (with basic functionalities) clicking on Photos in the carousel. As soon as Photos starts, you should be able to find a small camera icon in the top-notch corner of the screen. That gives you access to a stripped-down app.
The installed camera app sports several added features, which have been blocked for some unfathomable reason. To access those, you need a modicum of fiddling: install ES File Explorer from Kindle App store (free app), then click on App Manager, Category, choose all apps. You'll see all the installed apps. Tap on camera and voila, you get the stock Camera app with full functionality.
If you ask me, there should be a way to add the app to Favourites or Carousel, but I couldn't find it.
Suggestions are welcome!

the kindle fire HD has a camera. out of three of us that have them on 2 the camera "icon" pops right up in the top right corner when you click on photo. The third one doesn't have it... any idea how to make the icon appear?

*sigh* Which Fire do you have? 1st Gen (2011 release), or an HD (newer)?

ETA: Alrighty, then. Thanks for stopping.
