You could easily get around this by changing the date and time on the device back a day or two. I'm not around an Internet connection often so I used this to get around syncing. So, once I started experiencing the problems were talking about, I decided that I should fix my date and time first. And voilà! It works! So It may be false failed download links like bantcher says or my problem. Either way, I hope this helps.

You won't lose your books or your apps. Once you reregister your Fire they will be available in the Cloud. You will have to download them. It's a pain setting everything up again, but it does fix the problem. I did it. It's like getting a new machine to play with. All it will cost you is some time.

Our family received 3 Kindle FIRE HD (7") tablets for Christmas, and 2 of the 3 had the exact same problem (DownloadFailedNoWiFi) discussed in this thread. Oddly, 1 of the 3 was fine, and after troubleshooting... we could not find a reason why.

I found a solution on another thread, and thought I would share it here since this is the first thread I found while trying to find a solution to our problem:

So a factory reset on the 2 none working units fixed BOTH on the initial 'Reset to Factory Defaults' attempt, and they have been working perfectly ever since. Since the kids were just getting started playing with the 2 "DownloadFailedNoWiFi" units, nothing much was lost except a couple of hours of setup and initial download/play time.

I hope this helps others, and beware the factory reset is just that... it resets the Kindle to 'new & out of the box,' with NONE of your data/info remaining.

If it helps, I just got off the phone with Amazon support, and a ticket has been submitted to diagnose and correct the glitch. I'll update when I receive any update...

My Kindle Fire HD also seems to be suffering this issue, although I've owned it since its initial release.

My son is having the same situation will all three books he purchased yesterday. I too did the cancel order process and now have multiple transactions ill have to monitor on my credit card. Rather annoying if I do say so. Anyway, like yours, the books are in our library ready to be read. Thanks for posting this. It's nice to know we're not alone :-)

My wife has the same problem with her new amazon kindle fire HD Christmas morning. The message she recieved on the kindle was "download failed, no wifi". After checking her carousel, it stated she was prompted with diffrent options. Delivery, delete, save etc.

Amazon has what I call a "bugaboo". Hopefully the next software release corrects this one.

I called Amazon customer support last night and they had me de-register and re-register my device, but I still got the "download failed" warning after that process. In the end, it appears they were false "download failed" warnings and that I should have ignored the warnings and checked my carousel before assuming that, in fact, the download had failed.

Bottom line: if you try to download a book (and maybe also an app?) and get a download failed warning, check your carousel first before assuming that the download actually did fail.
