I have no idea if it's available to residents of Ireland (topic of the thread) or if the Fire TV even works in Ireland (Fire tablet is the other topic of the thread)

Now it's 2015 and the same problems with the amazon digital stuff in Ireland. I had to change my account from amazon.com where I used to buy all my ebooks for my old kindle no bother to an account at amazon.de in order to download anything on my new kindle fire because my bank account is with a German bank and the technology can't handle someone living in one country and having a bank account in another?!? Globalisation?!? amazon shifting profits from here to there and back, mostly via Ireland ?!? Of course having my digital account with amazon.de means less access to English books, streaming of films doesn't work at all (I tried prime, ha) because my IT address and location obviously is in Ireland and not in Germany. I can get apps though, wow. Furthermore ebooks are way cheaper on amazon.com than on amazon.de, which means once I have all the apps I think I need/want I will change back to amazon.com for the books and hope for the best that everything else still works.

Just checking -- couldn't quite figure out what the on/off had to do with Ireland. I wouldn't think it's related to location.

Are you sure it's fully charged? What Kindle are we talking about? If it's a Fire, is the power button being accidentally bumped?

I live in Ireland but bought a kindle Fire in the U.S. almost a year ago. I have no problem downloading apps or watching videos. I haven't tried to download a movie but haven't noticed any difference between using it here in Ireland and when I'm in the U.S.

Hello everyone I am so happy, I purchased a Kindle for my daughter as a christmas present not knowing that she would be unable to download apps as we live in Ireland, for the first month she was able to download free apps and then that all stopped, She was very keen to download a particular game but that wasnt possible until today. Thanks so much to www.the-digital-reader.com as by following their instructions I was able to go in and change the settings on the kindle, I then downloaded the app 1 mobile market, and from their I was able to download any amount of FREE GAMES and app. I now download books from Amazon, games from 1 mobile market, My daughter is so happy

Frances, you need to go into your profile and remove your e-mail address from your poster name. You are leaving yourself open to spammers, scammers and all the other bottom feeders who troll public boards like this. Just click on your name and you'll see where you can change it.

get the adobe flash app for RTE. I use it and it's fine. For video get the mobo app for android. These should be available somewhere on the net.

I've totally been enjoying all the apps I've downloaded from goodereader and 1mobile

I really wish amazon.co.uk had a "using this outside the UK" warning so people from Ireland (one of my favorite countries) wouldn't be so disappointed

Hi CBRetriever,

I live in the Republic of Ireland and the reason I thought I had the same rights to shop on amazon.co.uk as UK residents was that I've been buying paperback books for years from their site without restrictions.

So when amazon.co.uk sent me an email before Christmas about their special offer on Kindle Fire I took up their offer assuming it was on the same basis as the books (there being no information in their email saying otherwise). I purchased the Kindle Fire using my usual amazon account and it was only when it got to the shipping address that a message came up saying that they only shipped to UK addresses and giving me the option to enter a UK shipping address. I assumed, incorrectly it would seem, that the reason for this restriction was because their offer included free shipping.

So it was mildly irritating to come across this geographic restriction on Apps when I tried to download one today. Which is why I came to be reading your posts now!

Many thanks for supplying info on alternate sources for Apps via 'side-loading'.

(BTW amazon.co.uk give me the option to pay for purchases in Euro or Sterling)

I have a kindle fire and i live in Wexford and i have no problems downloading apps or books. I think it is a great piece of technology. I had it up and running within minutes of using it. I can surf the web as well with no difficulties. You have to adjust settings on the device which is not hard and then you can download apps off a site that has thousands of different apps. I have games and shopping apps downloaded and i also have a load of books some of which i had got on my iphone kindle which were there straight away. I would highly recommend the kindle fire.

Hi

Have purchased a kindle fire for christmas and have managed to download apps and books no bother. Just wondering do anyone know what to download in order to watch programmes online. I can get onto itv player perfect but it tells me i need adobe flash player which i downloaded in apps store but when i try to use that it does nothing. Am wondering is there another flash player i could download or what else do i need to install that would allow me to watch programmes. I live in Ireland and cannot get rte player which seems crazy but it will let me access itv player.

Well said Mary. I bought my Kindle in Belfast and it's very annoying not being able to use it to its full potential. Its all to do with money. Compare the price of a book on the US site to the UK site. We are being ripped off in Ireland. If there was more money in it for Amazon they'd be onto it. Happy reading.

It'd be nice to just have an announcement from Amazon as to where they are with an Irish store or whether they intend in giving us a market at all.

After the initial feeling of "Oh shiny new kindle, must get ALL the apps", I'm just using it for browsing and reading. I could probably delete the games I have as I don't play them.

As for people saying why do the Irish expect to be able to have access to the British market...well, Amazon redirects us to their site every time so I'd be expecting the same for the Kindle store.

Nothing to do with 300 years of oppression and held grudges. People still holding those thoughts need a good kick in the arse.
