I just found out that it would be eTrades job to get into the Amazon app store. Amazon would have to pay Google if they allowed access to the Android Marketplace, so they started their own market.
Amazon pays 70% of the apps sale price to the developer, after the developer pays Amazon a $99 annual fee, waived the first year. So how would installing a free app from GETJAR be any different than getting a free app from Amazon. Actually, if the developer can see where their app is being installed it would perhaps encourage them to join the Amazon app market so they could sell their "premium" version and it would help Amazon.

Thanks Stujoe. I wasn't familiar with those sites. They don't offer eTrade, but did have some other free apps I'm interested in that appear to be compatible with a Kindle Fire.

So you want Amazon to pay a licencing fee on a device they sell below cost so you can buy apps elsewhere? Tell me how this would be a smart business decision...

I have not looked for those types of apps myself but have you tried looking on the 1mobile or getjar app stores for what you want? I have found all sorts of apps not available yet on the Amazon store at both of those sites for my fire.

Still too limited on the apps for me to buy a Fire. If eTrade and Stock Quote apps were available I'd but it tonight.
PLEASE, make the Android Marketplace available!
