to the right of where it says "cloud | device" there is "Active Content" and a down arrow. Click on that. A menu comes up, choose "All Items".

Here's the thing: I have a new Paperwhite. I am able to download from among the 100+ books I purchased on my old Kindle one at at a time by going to But on the device, when I tap Cloud, I see only 3 items (all games) - no books. Also, no collections.

What am I doing wrong?

Cyn1- 2 points that have not been mentioned yet.
First is I kept my KK for audiobooks since the PaperWhite does not have speakers. There have been some great deals on audiobooks (0-$2) so I have something to listen to in the car.
Second might just be that I misunderstood what you meant- there is no reason to go through your old books and decide what to keep. You can keep them all and just download what you want to read to the new Kindle.

Not Hijacking..LOL. Actually, thanks for all the info and tips along the way! ;) I am anxiously awaiting my new Kindle, it always seems like time goes by SO slow when you are waiting for something good!

I still need to get through Outlander, Harry Potter, and All Creatures Great & Small.
Only two books left in Hitchhiker's Guide -- at least those are short.
NO MORE series right now. I must finish a few of these first.

sorry about hijacking the thread :)

Not yet; they're on my Long List. I haven't felt like tackling them; too much going on. Plus, I bought the Outlander series, to re-read/catch up on the latest one (which was panned). AND I bought an All Creatures Great and Small compendium, and am reveling in the memories reading those brings. :0)

But GOT will squeak to the top at some point.

Someone else told me about it LOL
As far as the library is concerned, they get the book back and to the next person.

Have you tried to read those books? They are each like 1000 pages long and have 500 characters!

Hah! Way to work the system! :0)

I found a use for my older KK. I am reading the series of Game of Thrones from the library. I can only check out books for 2 weeks. If I wanted to get it again, I have to get back in the long line of people wanting to read that book. I rushed through the first book to get it done in 14 days. I'm now on the second book, reading on my PW. On the last day I will download it to the KK and not turn the wireless back on until I'm finished.

I use different Kindles for different books. I send Freebies to one KK, paid books/top on my TBR to another, and so forth. I carry one with me, so I have some duplicates, but I use ALL my Kindles! :0)

Once you start to get rid of your old Kindle, you will want to do a reset to factory defaults. That will delete all your books and account information, making it "like new" for the next person.

Thank you all for the info! I was assuming for some reason, that everything would be transferred over and then the old kindle would be "empty". I guess this is a good time to go through my old books and decide which ones I actually want to keep. I wish we could donate books as well. ;)
I may hold onto the old Kindle for a little while to make sure everything is working properly, and then look into donating them to the troops. I can't think of a better place to send them to.
Again, Thank you everyone for being so helpful!

I agree with pineapple!

Books for troops is a fantastic organization that collects kindles for our deployed troops.

Cyn1 - I have all of my Kindles and use them all (5 of them).

If you'd like to donate your Kindle, here is a great organization:

No, your old books will not be on your new Kindle.

You can either send your books to your new Kindle via Manage Your Kindle in your account (which, I think, you can start doing already - then when you receive the Paperwhite and connect it, the books you've sent to it will load - just don't send too many as it will need to index them all!), or once you get the Paperwhite, you can tap on the Cloud tab in the Kindle and choose the books you want to download to the Kindle.

Some people keep their old Kindles (as backup), some give them away to friends or family, some people sell them. I'm sure there are also places that you could donate them to, but I have no idea. (In case of donation, selling or giving away, you should reset it to factory settings and wipe out the books on it, unless you give it to a family member who shares your Amazon/Kindle account anyway.)

First, I am SO disappointed that they aren't shipping now until Dec. 20th..BUMMER. I have the Kindle 2 with tons of books on it. Once I receive my new Kindle, will it already be loaded with all my books? And if so, will they be on both kindles now? (Not that I want OR need that). Just curious as to how this transfer works. Do people generally sell their old kindles? Just not sure what to do with it once I get my new one..or can they be donated somewhere? Thank you for any info that anyone can help me with. I appreciate it! =)
