Thank you so much!
I did as you said and opened proprties and clicked on compatability. In my case windows xp. It worked like a charm, not instantly but when I checked a few minutes later, problem fixed. Thanks again!
PS......all my books were there and I did not have to re-register.

Mine is windows 8.1 my app still won't open. It doesn't even open, so tire of this app can I put my books some place that works?

Have you tried leaving it alone for awhile to load? It takes at least 10 minutes to load on my computer. Eventually it loads. Frustrating, but this has been an issue for maybe a year for me.

I'm running Windows 7 and my Kindle for PC has stopped loading. I updated to the newest version but it still will not open. What's going on?

I buy a bunch of books every month in the winter. Im running from this app, got no time to waste on dumb stuff. Tried other apps same thing, its a windows issue.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I didn't know what to do, so I came here and your info fixed my problem! I thought I had lost all of my Kindle books, couldn't open Kindle at all. I went to Programs and couldn't find Kindle anywhere. Once I downloaded the new version, all my books appeared again. Thanks again!

Have you tried just letting it sit there and load?

Once I click to start the program, the "Kindle Loading" box pops up. It takes 5 minutes or more to actually load and open. Eventually, it does load. Hence, I never turn it off once loaded; it is always running in the background.

I am having the same problem. None of the suggestions in this thread have worked. Obviously a lot of people are having this problem. Amazon, say something! I don't have a kindle device. How exactly am I supposed to access the content I paid for?

My Kindle for PC stopped working.

Running:
Windows 7
Kindle for PC version 1.10.8
I found that I could run Kindle for PC by clicking the application directly from windows explorer. My executable is located at: C:\Users\myuser\AppData\Local\Amazon\Kindle\application

But when I clicked the shortcut on my desktop, it would not start. I opened the properties of the shortcut (right click on the shortcut and click Properties). Then, I cleared the path listed in the Start In box. After that, the shortcut starts the program fine.

Good luck

I tried everything in this forum but nothing worked. I was playing around with the it this morning and found something that did work!... I am running windows 7. I right clicked on the Kindle for PC icon, went to properties, clicked on compatibility tab and then put a check mark in the "run this program in compatibility mode for".... windows 7 from the drop down menu. clicked apply and then OK. double clicked the Kindle for PC icon and poof! it opened right up. had to register it again and re-download some of my books but all is well now.

I'm not sure what to do with your problem. HOWEVER, Zero Exploit day for Windows XP is April 8. That means Microsoft will do NO MORE updates for Windows XP following that date. Typically, this means hackers start attacking Windows XP machines, anti-virus programs no longer are updated for Windows XP, no Kindle for PC updates for Windows XP, etc. Any problems with your computer, and you are on your own. It may be time to consider a different Operating System.

If you are not ready to switch OS, at least backup all your data and store it on a removable drive, in case your computer is hacked.

I was having the issue of Amazon Kindle not opening on my computer. The only thing that happened when I clicked was that a message saying that kindle had "expired" on my PC. So after reading the things that worked for other people, I changed my computer date to 2011. After changing my computer to a date in 2011 Kindle opened on my PC (laptop) with no issues. So far this is a good band aid solution.

Thanks to Roy W. Huffman Jr. and Chew&DigestBooks for very helpful information and advice. I hadn't heard that the amazon Kindle for PC was due to stop working in July 2012 and I appreciate the advice to install the new version and the info that all old purchases would be transferred over to the new Kindle for PC.

The verisign certificate solved the problem for me. Please add to the instructions to download the file to a folder, then double-click the file to open it. The Certificate window opens to the General tab where there is an Install Certificate... button. Click that and a wizard does the rest.

verisign certificate still not included in k4pc download package (8jun13). use the link above (remove leading x), download and install in trusted root certificates folder.
