I got my kindle fire yesterday and found what I'm guessing to be dust between the glass and display that must have snuck in during manufacturing. I wouldn't haven even complained except I haven't even had it a full 24 hours. I used the nifty mayday button and in 5 mins after the obligatory "did you try turning it off and on" they had sent out a replacement. They are picking up the shipping and I can continue to use this one in the meantime.

You know I start to think my KF is faulty as well. I have one whole line of pixels at the top stuck. When its main screen its almost unnoticeable, but when u play games or watch movies (especially) that really annoys. Its kind of weird. They kind of change colours as the screen does, but invert colours (i mean when there is black frame around movie the line is white, when its blue, the line is yellow etc.). Has anyone have had this problem? Do u think this is faulty and I should return it for replacement because it is kind of annoying.

Had this issue for the past couple days - a straight line of dead pixels stuck in a purple color about an inch below the top of the screen. Had my kindle fire for the past ten months. I called CS and they issued a replacement after 2 or 3 quick questions with free two day shipping and free return shipping for the old kindle. Amazon has by far the best customer service of any company I've ever dealt with.

Anyone else having several different lines of pixels going out in different places every time you start up? Its really getting annoying.

Mine had 2 dead pixels stuck on red, so I used a dead pixel fixer video on youtube, and now those pixels are no longer stuck, but there are two more in a completely different location. What's up with that?

I have one on the corner of mine ;/ but my brother won't let me take it back and I spent $40 on a screenshield for it, so I'm just going to run a lot of pixel fixing videos to try and fix it.

I have 4 dead pixels - at least 4 tiny "white spots" that I assume are dead pixels. It looks like a tiny diamond. I finally called about it and they are sending a replacement. I thought I might just live with it but it is so noticeable with some backgrounds it is annoying.

I have 1 dead pixel. After reading this forum I figured I would call customer service and see what they said. They are going to ship me a replacement that will arrive in 2 days! They were very nice about it. I can ship the old one back after I get the new one with no shipping fee. That's awesome. So glad I called!

My son had one on his, took it back to the store and got a replacement. Today he noticed another pixel on his replacement. I'm thinking it's time to call it quits on the kindle Fire.

No stuck pixels here, but my first fire had three dust particles under the glass screen. Luckily, the replacement has been perfect.

The Dude says:
I have 1 dead pixel, 1 stuck on red, and a speck of debris under the screen
I'm thinking of exchanging my fire. the debris bothers me a lot more than the tiny pixel flaws.

sakanagai says:
A stuck pixel is a hardware issue, but it is sometimes possible to fix through software. There are webapps out there designed for mobile devices that will rapidly flash patterns on the screen to get pixels "unstuck". It doesn't always work, but it can save a return every now and then.

At this stage, though, it may be a better idea to just seek a replacement. In addition to getting hardware free of defects, it will give Amazon more accurate data concerning the quality of hardware which will then influence future production runs of the Fire and its successor.

If it is bothering you, contact Customer Service. I do not think it is software as you are seeing it a lot but you can try rebooting by holding the power button for 20 seconds to see if it makes any difference.

Is a stuck pixel a hardware problem - needs to be replaced or a software problem that will go away?

The fastest way to get in touch with Customer Service is via the Contact Us portal:

Bane says:
I have 1 dead pixel (black) about an inch in from the border at a corner and what I can only guess from the other comments, a small bit of dust under the screen (it appears white on the screen when it's turned off). They are both in locations that can become distracting while reading. Personally, I am so lazy that I don't even want to bother getting a replacement even with the added bonus that Amazon won't expect it returned until the replacement arrives. However, if a few more show up... I won't have much of a choice.

JJ Mahoney says:
I just noticed today what is either a dead pixel or dust. I only noticed it on a white screen. Its near the bottom. I'm tempted to call but if people are having problems with their replacements I might just wait it out. Its only annoying because its a brand new device. If it was a few months old I probably wouldn't care.

Amazon obliged me with yet another replacement. I think if this next one has more problems, I may have to give up on the platform and wait for ipad3 ;)
