i have two types of kindle charger (1) old black/white kindle charger (2) kindle fire hd charger : both of them are working but I found that with the old kindle charger, it charges up to 94%. Although I keep it overnight charging, it never changes. I tried kindle fire hd charger and it worked quickly and 100%. Use the right adaptor for the tool --- this is what I learned.

I said before the old kindle white colour charger would not work, but I was wrong. Have seen now that in half an hour the machine went from 70% to 86%, so plainly something is happening good there.

Same Here. I have the white charger, and is it NOT recognized by the Kinkle Fire.

I have been using the white charger that came with my first Kindle or other device to charge my KF HD -- it DOES work - but, takes all night to fully charge it - I am going to get a faster charger - either Energizer of Amazon -- thanks!!!!

I don't see why not. I use my HD with the charger plugged in. It won't charge much, if it's in use.

Is the Kindle HDX suppose to be turned on when charging?

Whats up with the Universal Serial Buss? It's anything but universal. There are various sizes of normal, mini, and micro USB plugs & ports. Do things need to be this complicated? Do I have to own a pile of charging cables for my devices?
Afterthought - upon further research, I find that I can buy a 10 in 1 USB adapter set, which may eliminate the need for all these cords and power adapters. ( provided the plugs volt & amp output, is adaquate) I wouldn't want to overload and damage my devices.

Thanks - I'll plug in first, then shutdown. That will charge it faster.

They come back on when plugged in to charge so if you shut it down then plug it in it WILL power back on, so it is normal.

I usually plug it in first to charge it then do a shutdown if I plan to leave it charging for a while, which allows it to charge at a slightly faster rate than having it on standby.

I tested the mini and own the HD, and couldn't agree with you more. I use my Fire strictly for movies now, and eventually will probably end up with an ipad for surfing.

Check the amp output of your phone charger as Most Cell Phone chargers are not powerful enough to charge these as they only put out half (.5) an amp, not enough. A 1amp wall charger MAY charge it but I have tried a couple different ones and only one 1 amp I have will work but very slow.

You will need a usb wall charger that will put out at least 1.5 AMPS for the fire to charge properly. Check the label on the usb charger before using/purchasing to make sure it is above 1.5 or up to 2.1 amps

As for the computer charging it, if it is just plugged into the wall and PC is not ON and running then your computer USB outputs will not have any power(don't know if this is the case with every PC but all 3 of mine have no power @USB's unless they are running). My PC's are a bit old and they only put out .5amps which I don't even bother ever using.

The Power Fast USB charger puts out 1.8 AMPS and is perfect to charge and keep FIRE running while charging.

I got my Kindle Fire HD two days ago. I have loved it, but then the battery died. I have a cell phone charger with a usb cord and I tried that but nothing happened. Next I plugged it into my laptop while my laptop was plugged in OVERNIGHT and when I woke up...nothing! It is still dead. Its like the cord doesn't work. I don't mind buying a charger but I want to make sure it is going to work. What is the best charger?

BeHappy says:
If you had it plugged into a usb port of a computer, you must have computer ON for usb port to have power. A computer usb port is very very slow to charge and it will take long time to charge but not 24 hours. Best way to charge is a USB Wall Charger

If you have 7" HD a high quality 1amp usb wall charger MAY work but I would use and recommend a USB wall charger with at least 1.5amps output which will still charge it while you use it. I have used several different 1amp chargers and some charge while using and some go in and out of charge, if kindle is left shut down and plugged in it will charge fine with 1amp.

8.9" HD needs extra power and I use 1.8amp chargers on that one to keep up with the demand of the bigger screen power draw, a 1amp on this one just goes in and out of charge and I would not recommend anyone to get a charger of this size if you want to use your kindle while charging, otherwise it will just drain battery and eventually just shut down.

Would the KF HD turn on when you got it? Are you using the USB cable that came with the unit? Are you using a wall charger rated at 1 Amp or more? Have you tried to reset the unit while the cable is not plugged in?

I bought a new kindle fire hd and charged it for 24 hours. It will not even turn on. Am I doing something wrong? I have a kindle fire and never had any trouble with it.

I received my factory refurbished Kindle Fire 8.9" HD yesterday. It came fully charged (over 90%, anyway), but I still had it charging for part of the day and the entire night. My son played a game for about 45% and that brought it from 100% to 54%. When it hit about 30%, I plugged it in. After 2 1/2 hours, it was at 40%. Then my other son wanted to play (while it was charging), and after about 30 minutes, it shut itself down, because the battery was gone. Plugged it in- wouldn't charge. Tried another outlet, and after 45 minutes (while not in use), it was at 7%. Tried to do 1 thing and after a minute, it was down to 5% (while it was charging). Unplugged it, re-plugged it, and nothing- wouldn't charge. Turned it off and back on, tried a third outlet, and it is charging---slowly. In 30 minutes, it's gone from 4% to 7%. I am using the charging cord that came with the Fire, and plugging it in with a charger adapter that I already had (that works with my iPhone 5 and my old Kindle). Every outlet that I tried works perfectly, and charges all of our other devices (old Kindle, several iPhones, and the iPad.)

This is only 1 of the myriad of problems that I'm having- apps that are supposedly compatible won't show up; took me 15 minutes to get on Facebook the first time and 5 minutes the second time; while I was typing a FB status update, the caps lock got stuck on 4 times; the FB app closed in the middle of me typing; the case that I bought (supposed to turn the Fire on when you open the case and turn it off when the case closes) doesn't work...the list goes on and on.

I'm afraid I might have gotten a dud. Please tell me that this many problems is NOT the norm!

I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my Kindle Fire HD as well. When I first took it out of the box, I plugged it in immediately with the cord that came with it and my Apple charging block. The lightning bolt icon on the battery was flashing on and off so I assumed it was charging. I went to use it about 30 minutes later and the lightning bolt was still flashing but the power had gone down. I plugged it in with a different cord and block (purchased from eBay) and it charged correctly with the lightning bolt on the battery icon constantly. I had no problems with it for a few days and it was charging well every time (the lightning bolt stayed on the battery icon the entire time), but this morning when I plugged it in, the lightning bolt was once again flashing. I didn't have time to futz around with it as I was getting ready for work, but I don't know if it's charging! There are no lights on my Kindle (like a green/red indicator light) and the battery icon itself always stays white whether it's full or almost dead. So I really have no way of knowing whether or not it's charging unless I actively monitor it and make sure it's taking the charge. Has anyone else come across this problem?

Your post, which states only "Wow!! A lot of misinformation." carries the implication that you know the correct information.

It would be helpful if you would share that with us. That of course assumes that you wish to be helpful.

Presumably, we'll see.

I just bought a Fire HD today. I tried to charge it with the white charger from my Kindle second generation and the charger got very, very hot and never did start charging the HD. I plugged it into the charger from my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the same thing happened. I now have it plugged into my computer and it has be plugged in for 3 hrs and there is no indication that it is charging. I have ordered a power charger and it will not come until next wk. I hope there is nothing wrong with the Fire HD.
