Trade treaties, copyright laws, and publishing contracts between authors and publishing houses, vary from country to country. That is not Amazon's fault.

I bought an ebook as gift to my sister who lives in Puerto Rico. She has a Kindle keyboard 3G, and her account is registered with an address in Puerto Rico. I could not believe that the book I gifted to her was not available for download in Puerto Rico. Why? Puerto Rico is a US territory all the copyright laws from the USA apply to the territory.

I will appreciate your help.

I live in Florida and was told I can't buy Sims due to geographic restrictions. What is that about?

no one outside the US can - if you subscribed to Amazon Prime, contact Customer Services and cancel it as it's useless outside the US

Hi I live in bermuda and I'm unable to download movies why?

CBRetriever says:
you can use the Kindle Fire just fine and get apps for it if you register it to amazon.com (make sure you have the latest update)

also, to be able to register and shop using your kindle (especially for apps)to amazon.jp, you have to actually live there

I'm in France shopping from amazon.com with my country set to France, so I should have very similar restrictions to what you would have on amazon.com with Belgium as your country, and I see around 8500 ebooks using a filter of "japanese edition" (use the quotes)

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=%22japanese+edition%22#/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A133140011%2Ck%3A%22japanese+edition%22&keywords=%22japanese+edition%22&ie=UTF8&qid=1370423222&rnid=2941120011

so you do have a functional Kindle Fire that can both get apps and books in japanese

My wife is Japanese and she bought a Kindle Fire from Japan (in order to be able to read Japanese books and magazines bought on amazon.jp). But currently we live in Belgium, Europe. What can we do with the geographical restrictions? I understand that she can't download all the apps or movies, but what about the books (after all, the goal was for her to be able to read Japanese books and magazines). If she can't download any books and magazines, can't we at least get refund (since it means we can't use the kindle at all)?

and Amazon is only selling them in and shipping them to 7 countries: the US, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, italy and Japan and you can purchase and buy apps in any of those countries

so no, Amazon is not letting people from any other countries buy their Kindle Fires and won't ship them to other countries - people are using various means to ship them outside the supported countries and/or third party vendors are selling them in other countries ad not bothering to tell people that they're selling a non-functional product (i'll give tem the benefit of the doubt: the vendor may not have evn bothered to check if it would work in the country they're selling them in as in the vendors who are selling any kind of Kindle in the UAE where all kindle content is banned)

Ireland, unless you're in Northern Ireland with a credit card with a UK address (Northern Ireland is in the UK), is not a supported country

I have a Spanish billing method and address, but I am in Ireland at the moment. Despite having the billing address and method from a supported country, it keeps telling me that I can't download the app of the day due to restrictions. What can I do? :( Thanks!

hello. i live in trinidad and tobago and i recently got a kindle fire HD as a gift. Everytime I try to get any APP, free or not, I can't due to geographical restrictions. Can someone please assist me n this matter. I use my father's US skybox address and my mother's VISA card that can work internationally. Why wouldn't it work?

Jazzy_Jeff says:
If that is the case all you need is a US address on your account and get a prepaid Visa card to put on your account. Just make sure it has an expiration date.

Thankfully I live in a border town and cross into the US regularly for shopping. I just bookmark what I want and download it when I cross the border.

I don't have a Fire but had the impression that you could sideload some apps from sources other than Amazon, and find content that's available in other countries.

CBRetriever says:
if you deregister your kindle and register it to his account so he can download stuff to it, the moment you deregister it to reregister it to your account, everything will be wiped clean - perhaps he could put his credit card temporarily on your account (I do not know if this will work)
