You'll see ads on your Samsung if you use the same apps you would have with a Fire. The ads are put there by the App Developers in order to make money. It doesn't matter what device you buy, as the ads are related to the app not the device.

The only thing your Samsung won't have is the Special Offers but you can buy a Kindle without Special Offers too.

OK, Kessa, do YOU have any other thoughts YOU would like to share with total strangers?

You pay $15.

You paid $15 less to get the version with ads so of course you have to pay the difference to remove the ads.

I don't want to pay 15 $ and I shut the sleep mode pics off but they still come on how do I get rid of that???

My Fire HD is on the way, but I do have a new Paperwhite. You don't have to pay extra to be ad-free on that. Just go to settings, device options, personalize, and turn off recommended content.

Do you realise that if you pay the difference to remove the ads you still can't "make it your own" by changing the sleep screen? You simply get Amazons stock images. In my opinion they're simply not worth the $15.

Grace- I'm guessing you bought the ad supported model because it was cheaper. Now you know why. All ad supported kindles are less expensive, if you wanted no ads, you needed to buy the correct model.

But if this really makes you upset, please go spend a LOT more on the iPad mini.

Turn off Amazon Recommendations in the Options, and you will only see the ads on the home screen.

So she would have something to complain about later. Duh.

Then why did you purchase the ad supported model to begin with?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 19, 2014 5:40:31 AM PDT
Well YOU'RE the one who chose to buy the discounted model with ads. You paid less for the model YOU chose to buy, so of course you have to pay difference.

Sure you were. Just because you don't pay attention to what you are purchasing.

Yes you are given that option.

Just go to your Manage Your Content and Devices, click Devices and click Edit where it says Special Offers.

You can either Subscribe to Special Offers, if you don't already get them.

Or you can Unsubscribe from them, but will have to the balance, because SO Kindles price was discounted for having the SO's.

Folks its real simple to delete unwanted ads from your kindle... At least it is for the cheap kindle like I have. In Windows under folder options enable the options to view hidden folders, including system folders. Next connect your kindle to a computer via a usb cable. It will be mounted like a usb drive. Open the kindle and navigate to system\.assets. The .assets folder contains the advertisements. Delete the contents of this folder and the advertisements are gone until a new batch is download by Amazon.

Horribly disappointed? Horribly disappointed at advertising which has been ever-present in our culture since about the time Gutenberg first inked a roller? Lady, you gotta get out more if you think this is the epitome of "horrible" in this world.

Advertisers pay Amazon to put the Special Offers on the Sleep Screen. Amazon reduces the price of the device accordingly so, in effect, the advertisers are subsidising your purchase.

I love the Special Offers. I've had some really good bargains in the 18 months plus that I've had the device. If you don't want a bargain, don't buy a bargain. Buy the full priced item to begin with.

The ads only appear on the Lock screen. If you're seeing Recommendations on the Home screen that option can be turned off (without charge).
