I do NOT see the orange light on my Kindle Fire, anywhere...Can someone help? I've been charging my Kindle for the better part of today and it's still not even at 50% charged. I've charged via computer and wall outlet. VERY frustrating, and the battery power seems to drain quickly. Am I supposed to clean the cache regularly or close out APPS? I don't know how to do either, as there's not a lot of directions for the Kindle

@Katherine Hatch

While you computers USB Port may supply enough electricity to charge your Kindle Fire, It is unlikely to furnish enough to both charge and use the Kindle Fire at the same time.

Your Kindle Fire's charger is capable of supplying 5volts DC @ as much as 1.8amps the USB port on your computer will supply about 5vdc @ maybe .65amps. problem of supply and demand!

If it does, then it is powered. Answers that question.

It charges my cell phone... weird.

It is also possible that the USB port is non-powered. I don't think there are many or any of those on modern machines, but a few years ago not every port would be for power, they might just be data.

Try removing the usb cable from the computer, wait 1 minute and plug it in again. Many computers need to be "working" to charge - in other words - not in screensaver or sleep mode or anything like that.

If you computer responds when you plug the Kindle in, it should make a sound. If it is not making a sound, then you may have problems. You can always try a different usb port.

If you wish to contact Kindle support about this, click on help at the top of the page and then contact us button on the next page. I usually use the option to let amazon call me.

I understand, but it doesn't appear to be charging at all. There's no lightening bolt in the bar, and when you go to device-- it does not say charging like it normally would. What do I need to do?

@ Katherine, it takes a few hours to completely charge a Kindle battery, depending of course on how low the battery is.

I am trying to charge my kindle via the computer using a mini-USB connector. The orange light is on, but the battery bar is not filling up. Is it actually charging? Battery does not seem to be increasing--any suggestions?

The battery bar will also fill/top right corner.

And a K2 and K3.

On all models, there will be an orange light when the device is charging. The light will turn green when charging is complete.

See your User's Guide (it's on your Kindle).
