Using reward points for Kindle purchases

You can use points to reload your gift card balance, which can then be used to buy kindle books. Super easy and takes 5 minutes for the credit to take effect. And then you can immediately buy the kindle book you want. Here's the link to reload your balance:

On your Chase Visa Account Summary page choose "Go to Rewards Details", choose "Redeem Rewards", select "Cash Back in the Form of Statement Credit". Hope this helps.

I see no "statement credit" option. this doesn't work or has been changed, i think.

I agree completely!

You can't edit payment type when buy with 1 click is the only option though.

mm14, I can't believe I never thought of that. Thanks!

Dear HappyBookWorm,
You can use your Chase reward points for Kindle purchases. Merely go to your Chase account online, choose "statement credit" and Chase applies your reward points against your credit card balance. Then just 1-click your Kindle purchase, the end effect is the same. An earlier Amazon Customer gave this advice which worked perfectly for me! Happy reading!

I was disappointed in the Amazon card. It doesn't seem right that you can't use your points for digital purchases.

Wow! This really helped me. I just requested statement credit per your suggestion. What a great work-around! Thanks so much!

FYI "You need a minimum of 2,000 points to redeem." [rewards points as cash back in the form of statement credit]

I think I may have $30 tied up in kindle books and $14 of that is one book. Amazon offers free books everyday. So digital books do not have to be expensive. And no I am not talking the classics.

I think it's terrible that you can't use your Chase reward points to make a kindle purchase. Totally sucks. I buy and read a lot of digital books. These digital books get expensive. I thought digital technology was supposed to be less expensive than printed books.

Applying the points against the balance is great idea. I'm doing it now, according to chase:

"If you have chosen to have a statement credit applied to your Chase credit card account, the credit will usually be made within 2-3 business days."

So, it doesn't happen right away, but it basically achieves the same effect. This is a great workaround, though it is convoluted to find the screen to do this.

Or take the rewards in cash, deposit the money to your bank account, then pay for the books as usual.

Honestly, how hard is this?

I am going to cancel my Amazon Chase card since i cannot use it for Kindle book purchases

I am really disappointed to find I can't purchase Kindle books with the Visa Amazon Chase card reward points. Will now go back to using another credit card for my general purchases. I think Amazon and Chase should rethink this. I'm sure there are many Kindle owners who feel the same as I. I agree with Book Monster and do feel cheated.

Argh! I feel like I've been cheated. I used my Chase points to buy the Kindle - and really I only bought it because I thought I could use my points to buy Kindle books - and now I find out I can't use my points to buy Kindle downloads. WHY? I just don't get it. I'll probably return the Kindle now.

I just checked into in the Help section and found this:

"Rewards program points cannot be used for all purchases on Amazon.com, and items that currently may not be purchased using Shop with Points include:

Amazon Kindle downloads
Amazon MP3s
Amazon Instant Video titles
AmazonFresh items
Subscribe and Save items

Physical gift cards can be purchased using Shopping with Points. However, gift cards printed at home or sent via e-mail cannot be purchased using Shop with Points."

I love this new feature. I've had an Amazon Visa for years, and always had to go to Chase's site and order gift certificates, which they treat like physical products -- they "ship" (mail) them to you, and it often takes a couple of weeks to receive the paper certificate. Ridiculously primitive.

It's too bad you can't now add the points directly to your GC balance so you can order digital content with them, but this is still better than it was before.
