Oh, goody. Another game. Well, since it's only shipped in the U.S. we know it isn't a Kindle Keyboard or a Kindle basic, don't we?

But, seriously, you can get "a Kindle" shipped to you in Afghanistan. It might not be the particular model of Kindle that you want but are keeping a secret but you can definitely get "a Kindle" shipped to Afghanistan.

or merely out of date information as the ban has been lifted

@KnittingFits: That post was over 1 year old! I doubt that the person is still tracking this post. Reviving old threads can also revive incorrect information somewhere in the tread that will mislead people.

Caroline, you can't do that either. You CANNOT ship a Kindle, cell phone, GPS, etc etc etc to Afghanistan. My son just went over there and we went thru this. SUPPOSEDLY, they will be lifting the ban on shipping items with lithium batteries in them, but it's not a done deal. On the last day before he deployed he was able to find a cheapy Kindle in a store near where he was. He was able to take it on the plane with him. Here's a link that gives some of the (old) info. http://www.fastcompany.com/1836973/usps-stop-delivering-ipads-and-kindles-troops-and-overseas-consumers-may-16

I hope you know that on your Fire you won't be able to download any movies, songs or apps while outside of the US?

Set up an account with APOBox.com. They charge by weight, but it's pretty inexpensive. I've used it several times and just got my Fire in 8 days.

Hi - were you able to do this? I've run into the same thing myself, and have concerns about the battery....

Amazon can't ship items to Afghanistan that have pre-installed batteries. That doesn't mean that you can't get one there. You simply need to have Amazon ship it to a US address and then ship it on from there.

If this is military connected you might contact someone at the unit's US base and ask them about mailing a Kindle. I know my sister mailed on a digital camera to my nephew when he was serving in Afghanistan a few years back but had to make sure the batteries were removed before shipping it. The problem is you can't remove the Kindle's battery.

The usual methods are eBay, shopereaders.com or US-reshipper. Or you can ship it to a buddy in the US who is willing to reship it to you. If it's ordered by you, the Kindle will be registered to you. If you order from eBay, you might want to double check that the Kindle is unregistered just to save potential headaches.

If there's no other way maybe you can ship it to yourself and send it to Afghanistan that way?

Tried last night, said it only shipped to the US.
