It would be interesting to see which BT keyboards you have used... and worked or not.

Personally, I think it would become tedious to use a BT keyboard and pointing on the screen to move around to type a doc, even a small one.... I revert to my laptop - like typing this.

I have tried to download kingsoft application with no luck. Ordered from amazon to be delivered to my kindle fire, but, there is no sign of it. I am having trouble to find a compatible word processor to my new kindle fire 7.

Kingsoft Office is a free full function app in the Amazon app store.

The Kindle Fire HD 7 is an android device. There are a number of MS Office clones, just type "Office Suite" into the search box in the Amazon Android App store and read the reviews. Most have a free version you can try out before you buy the full version.

I am also looking for a good word processing app for the Kindle Fire HD 7". The advertised apps shown on the Kindle apparently are for Android service. Any suggestions?

They would have access to a laptop for the big stuff. OfficeSuite Professional 6 has excel & word compatible apps. The demo looks pretty good. I'm looking for this device to handle the little day to day assignments and simple reports. Thank you for your comments.

Depending on their needs, I would be wary of using the fire in place of having a full computer. The office apps don't have all the features of a full office software. This could be a problem in a science class or something, if they need some of the excel features,, etc.

OK, I will look into the 8.9"-thx. 13 & 15 yrs old - more for report writing and small assignments. Laptops are not for this generation. Thanks again.

Depending on the kids and their ages it may work well for them. I would recommend that you consider the 8.9" model. The 7" form factor is not ideal for document creation. That's especially true given the 16x9 aspect ratio.

Thank you for the responses. It's looking like a very good alternative to a full laptop for the kids.

1) probably, but i don't use dropbox
2) if one of the printer apps supports your particular model of printer, yes. I have never had problems with printer share as a print app
3) if you are going to use a bluetooth keyboard make sure you have the latest software update to the fire. It fixes a massive problem with bluetooth keyboards on the fire.

1. Can you create a document with a word processing app and save the doc file to a Dropbox path in a RTF format?
2. Can you print documents to an HP wireless printer directly from the K-HD?
3. Any problems working with wireless keyboards? Which one is the best?
