Nobody said it was a ridiculous idea. Just that it's a bit odd to expect CS to tell someone to do something that 99% of the time won't work.

 Ann says:
Typically, a grayed-out button in an interface is not selectable at all - no error message, no functionality, no user feedback, etc. I'm not sure why you think someone should have suggested trying it anyway.

Since I read through this post AFTER Meya suggested it, when was I supposed to? I actually wasn't being sarcastic and really do wonder why no one in Amazon Customer Service didn't say "what happens if you try to borrow it even though the button is grey". It seems logical...if you tap the "borrow" button when it's grey you should either get some sort of error message (which provides more information as to the nature of the issue) or it works and then that also would help get to the root of the issue.

A. Dietz says:
L.J., I didn't see you suggest it either.

It's kind of amazing that no one would think to just try the button anyway until Meya said something. Yes it's something that needs to be researched from a support/development end, but why no one else suggested "tap the button anyway" is beyond me.

Wow, Meya, I'm impressed!

Be sure to let Amazon support know this!

Cool! Glad you got it sorted out.

I appreciate everyone's willingness to assist. Still no answer

I think so. When I haven't borrowed a KOLL book, I don't see a "loans" either, EVEN if I have public library books out on loan. Now, if I have a KOLL book AND library books, I see them all... weird. lol

I've borrowed in the past nearly every month. My last book was returned. My subscription says I am able to borrow. Tech support says they don't see why I can't borrow. They now have my Kindlelogs with the development team and are, hopefully, researching my problem. They've had the logs for over a week.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 18, 2012 7:50:45 AM PST
I don't see a "loans" button to click on in the view drop down menu using my Kindle. I don't have any books out on loan is that why?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 18, 2012 7:47:49 AM PST
Ah, I only just joined Prime this month, so I'm on my first borrowed book. Didn't know about the prompt. Thanks. :)

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 18, 2012 7:46:37 AM PST
It prompts you to return the one you have if you do that.

I remember other posters saying the button was "greyed out" but it still worked. Traci, have you tried the button, in spite of how it looks?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 18, 2012 7:44:48 AM PST
So you've been able to borrow in the past?

Have you returned your borrowed book?

Which Kindle do you have?

I've got the Kindle Fire, I think it's 1st generation

Done this many times....on my Kindle, in the store, in the KOLL. Even support says I should be able to borrow but the button is gray. Since September.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 18, 2012 7:40:54 AM PST
Are you in the U.S.?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 18, 2012 7:40:48 AM PST
Traci, which Kindle are you using? Are you using the Store link, or going through the browser? You must use the Store link on the device, not the browser.

If you would tell us which Kindle you are using you would stand a better chance of getting a helpful reply.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 18, 2012 7:40:15 AM PST
I am using the device. My subscription says I can borrow this month. I've had my device, and Prime for a year and borrowing is my only problem. The button is gray. Had copious numbers of phone calls to support....sent them my Kindlelogs a week ago and the development team is supposed to be researching my issue.
