I have lupus and can no longer hold real books. why do I have to pay more for an e-version than a printed paper edition (new)? There is no cost with paper, ink, printing, shipping, storing and bookstore overhead! wtf?

CBRetriever says:
because the publisher in a lot of cases has set the price on the ebook and amazon has set the price on the paper books - amazon can discount the paper books but cannot discount the ebooks

there's at least one thread a week on the topic and sometimes one a day - the last one probably has some of the better explanations

If you can't read paper books then why compare prices? There are so many free and low cost books available that are great reads.

Do a Google search for "Why kindle books cost more than paperbacks" and I guarantee you will get enough reading material to last you several days.

<tongue location='firmly in cheek'>

It's all that darn Adam Smith and his "free market" malarkey! Forcing the costs of things to be based on some magical incantation about "Supply and Demand". Who is he to tell us what things should cost? Huh? Sets himself up as a little tin pricing god and forces us all to dance to his tune. Someone should do something about that!

C. EMELIO says: "why do I have to pay more for an e-version than a printed paper edition (new)?"

Same reason you sometimes pay more for something at Best Buy than you do at Wal-Mart. 2 different sellers. Same reason you sometimes pay more for a DVD than you do for a BlueRay. One is on sale by the seller.

Oh and the same reason you sometimes pay more for a paperback than you do a hardcover after the paperback has released. One is on sale by the seller in order to get the stock out the door. You know, that "higher storage costs" you mentioned. A seller has more incentive to take less profit on an item that costs more to store in order to keep stock low and keep overhead costs low.

You might check out your local library - many of them are now loaning Kindle ebooks to people.. (but not all publishers allow it)

Why are there so many MANY threads on this topic? After all, it costs nothing to read the previous threads to get the answers to this question.

same reason there are so many threads on:

my book(s) didn't download
I can't connect to the internet
my kindle is frozen
parental controls
why can't I buy apps/kindle fire/stream media

I probably left a few out, but those are probably the most common

Because most people do not realize that a forum is an archive of previous questions and answers.

Or they think their question is so unique that no one could have ever asked it before.

Or they don't have the searching skills to find what they are looking for.

Or they feel that their time would be wasted looking for answers and would prefer to simply re-ask questions.

Or your question was rhetorical.

why are your links shorter than mine?

Perry says:
Depends on where you cut them from. If you parse it out, you can see that only cdForum and cdThread are mandatory, the rest are optional.
