When MSFT first came out with their mobile OS I had to register in the UK and purchase my books via
This was not a problem, despite the fact that I live in Denmark, I had full access to my ebooks via my PC, my Kindle 3G and my Windows Mobile, which was what I had been looking for as I am a bookaholic like the rest of you...
MSFT then came out with Mango (Windows Mobile 7.5) and enabled local marketplace where I could obtain my apps. I do not have access anymore to my mobile Kindle app for my mobile phone via this Danish marketplace, despite the fact that I can still purchase ebooks and use my PC and Kindle.
I consider this a market hindrance and have raised support cases with both MSFT and Amazon without any response.

Is this the time where I change my vendor or does anybody have any recomendations/similar experiences?

Same here. I live in Russian and have Russian MS Live account. Kindle app is not available to me. Russian iOS and Androids have this app, but WP7 does not. Very disappointing.

Same here. I have Russian MS Live account. I can purchase books on, read them on my Kindle hardware device, iPad (via Amazon app from Russian app store), iPhone (via Amazon app from Russian app store), but cannot install Amazon Kindle app for WP7 device. Looks strange. The app itself is free of charge, so, what is the problem to publish it to all marketplaces? I talked today with Amazon support via live chat, the representative wrote down the complaint.

Today Audible (an Amazon company) released Audible app for WP7. And this app is available in Russia.
I really wonder what makes Kindle so different that it is still unavailable only on WP7 in Russia (and, probably, Scandinavia)!

It seems like a kind of magic, but today I installed Kindle for WP7 via Russian Live account. (Hint: use "Marketplace search" app, find Kindle and tap install. Works like charm. Finally, thanks, Amazon! :-)

Thanks a lot, it's really can be found and installed via Marketplace Search app. Very very strange, isn't it? Whose problem is this, Amazon or Microsoft?

I think Amazon just published Kindle for Russia, and this change did not roll down official Marketplace. Let's check in couple days...

Hi all,

Thanks to my Russian friends for their interest in this issue.

I have also now been able to download the Kindle App, which greatly increases the user value of my Mango 7.5... :)

My guess would be that MSFT has now introduced their own eReader device working with another US book chain and therebye having resolved the market split between the 4/5 majors in the eBook business.

So everybody should be able to move on and enjoy reading books, which basically is what it is all about.

I now use Calibre, Kindle, ReaderPC for my software and Kondle and Sony TSR1 as my readers (as well as my trusty HTC Mozart) so I would wonder how the marketing people think they have succeeded in maintaining customer loyalty :)

Thanks again and I will close this thread shortly so we can get back to reading.

Thanks again for your comments.

Bruce, just wait a bit, do not close. MS and Amazon can still recall this app from our devices... Let's wait a month to ensure that Kindle App made available for us not by accident :-)
