one-click payment using existing gift card?

The one-click payment selection only allows one to enter a credit card number or a new gift card. I have a balance on an existing gift card which I would like to use with my new Kindle Fire. How can I link the two together?

Link the credit card & the gift card?

Let's start with, when you use 1 click, if you have a gift card on file, that is where the money comes from 1rst - if it is not enough to cover the cost of the purchase, the rest then comes out of the credit card on file. Does that help at all? I hope so, I am sure I totally understood what you meant. =)

What Ferret said. When you list your gift card, Amazon does not draft your credit card until your gift card is used up.

Thanks for replying. The question I have is that when I hit the "get now with 1-click", the next screen states "please select a payment method". The only two methods listed is to enter a credit card number or enter a new gift card. How do I tell it to use the current gift card I have on file?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 27, 2011 10:28:48 PM PST
If you do nothing, it will automatically take it out of the gift card 1rst - then your credit card, if your gift card doesn't have enough money on it - but either way, it will take from the gift card 1rst. The only time you would need to click on anything is if you want the purchase to be taken out of your credit card, instead of the gift card.

Okay. Then how do I get past the "please select a payment method" screen?

Hold on, let me go buy something & let me see where you might be hung up. It shouldn't take me too long. =)

ETA: OK, I just have .30 on my gift card, so I didn't buy anything. But are you trying to buy something other than an eBook this way?

Actually, I was trying to buy a free app!
Do you think it matters that I have been using the gift card for downloading books to my original Kindle and now I have added a Kindle Fire? Since both units are registered to my same account, I assume the payment account should apply to both.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 27, 2011 10:52:34 PM PST
If you're buying a free app you shouldn't have to select a payment method. And I agree, the payment on your account should work for both devices.

I agree with Anna, but I am adding money to my gift card now - I changed my mind. LOL!

I will let you know when I do it - I waiting for the email with the gift card to come.

Do I have to set up the "1-click" payment option? The only info I find on that is to select one of the two payment options I stated earlier.

OK, I did it. The Gift Card was already checked, but I could have chosen to use my credit card. I then agreed to it (letting the gift card pay for it). Does that help?

I was signed in under 1-click (because it was a Prime purchase), but usually I have my 1-click turned off - when ordering eBooks, the 1-click is already set for that, but just on electronic media (games, books, MP3's).

I just went through the process again with the same unsuccessful results. Not sure what the problem is but will try again tomorrow. It's 2:11 a.m. now and perhaps I need fresh eyes and thoughts in the morning. I'll check back here then. Thanks to all who tried to help.

BTW, thanks! You gave me an excuse to get Nonstick Silicone Baking Mat - Silicopat Terracotta - Small (fits 10x14 pan) - I've been wanting it for awhile now, but didn't..., you gave me excuse. =)

Hi again. I found that I can download books to both my Kindle and Kindle Fire without a problem. The issue comes when I try to download apps. Perhaps I need to configure, download, or change settings in order to do that? I assumed that was already set up since I can click on apps and then able to go to the app store on my Kindle Fire. Am I missing something?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 28, 2011 12:18:42 PM PST
I don't have a Fire so I don't know how to download apps. Have you tried Kindle Customer Service? It may be that something is amiss with your Fire.

I was looking for a telephone number for customer service and did not find one. Just sent them an email and it says I should hear back within 12 hours. Thanks.

We gave the Kindle Fire to our 12 year-old daughter for Christmas, along with a $25 Amazon Kindle gift card. I am VERY unhappy to learn that she is required to have a 1 click payment method setup with MY credit card number, just so she can download free apps. If there is a way to set up an Amazon account so that apps can be downloaded WITHOUT having a credit card on file, please let me know. I think this is a totally unreasonable requirement, and if I'd known this was a requirement, I probably wouldn't have bought her the Kindle.

I ended up calling them and they told me that apps could only be downloaded into this country and that they needed a credit card number to prove residential location. Any charges could be taken from the gift card and not the credit card. There must still be a better way.
