How do I permanently delete books from my kindle...seems that when I delete goes to archive

If you want to delete it permanently to to the manage your Kindle web page and find the book title you want to delete. Click the + sign in front of the title and click the delete button. This removes the book from your account so if you wanted to access it again it would have to repurchased.
Book titles in the archives are simply a list of books in your account that are not on the device.

Carol, I just want to point out very clearly that if you delete a book from your Manage Your Kindle page, it disappears entirely from your Amazon collection and you will never be able to read it again without paying for it again.

You maybe already knew that but I've seen a few people become confused and then angry that they had deleted something they would want later.

Using your computer, go to your Amazon account. Sign in. Now look about 3/4 of the way down the account page where you'll find Manage Your Kindle. Click that page.

Scroll down to the list of purchases and you'll see a + sign to the left of every title. Click that. It opens up to show the thumbnail and other details about your purchase. On the right is the delete button.

So, you can't delete anything from your kindle itself--you have to go to your account online?

ShirleyKat says:
Karen, you can "Remove" Amazon books from your Kindle. The titles will then appear in your Archives folder, but the books are gone from your Kindle.

You can "Delete" non Amazon content directly (including the Amazon samples). Once you do that, the content is gone and not backed up by Amazon.

To put it in paper book terms, book titles that appear on your Kindle home pages are on your bookshelf. Book titles in your Archive are in a box in the attic. Books that you go the extra step to permanently delete at MYK are ground up for mulch.

Carbonbased says:
To remove a book from your home page, highlight it and left-click the 5-way. A message will appear under the book that says 'remove from device.' Press the center of the 5-way and the book will show grey-on-black and then it will go to Archive.
If you don't have any collections, the following will only serve to confuse, but here goes:
If the message under the book says 'remove from collection,' you are inside a collection and clicking will take it out of that collection only. If it is still in another collection, it will stay there. Otherwise, it will show up back on your home page.
Inside a collection, to remove a book to archive, RIGHT click to open the menu page for that book and select the last option, 'Remove from Device' and click on that.

The manual that comes with all Kindles explains it very nicely.
