I am trying to figure out which Kindle I want to buy. I really like that I can use the fire to watch videos/tv shows and use it as an e-reader.. I have an Iphone so I do not need to use it for any email/apps. I really like that the touch has free 3G. I feel that the fire would be great if it came with 3g, because it seems pointless to have a netflix app and have cloud storage that you cannot access unless you are connected to wifi... Also I am interested that at a point in time being able to access textbooks and I don't know if either of them are capable of that. Anyone have any particular insight? I have never owned a kindle before.

One caution regarding the Kindle Touch and textbooks - you cannot rotate the Touch to a landscape view for graphics or diagrams. You may want to consider the 3G Kindle Keyboard.

The 3G on the Touch is limited to the Amazon store and Wikipedia. In order to access anything else you still need wi-fi.

I second what the others are saying ... get the 3G Keyboard. Personally I think that's the best model out there.

Get the 3G Keyboard, I have spoke to several people that have the Fire, and it's too late for them to return or exchange it for the Keyboard, which they would like to do.

my kindle touch 3g jumps ahead several pages or chapters on me by itself sometimes. I must be touching screen wrong somehow.

This happens to me too and it makes me crazy, as its hard to get back to the page I was on!

I have the Kindle 2nd Generation, the Kindle Keyboard and now I have the Kindle Fire.... The Kindle 2nd Generation was great just bigger than the Kindle Keyboard but it worked just fine for me... I love the Kindle Keyboard it was awesome it fits nicely in my pocket or purse... the buttons were not hard to navigate at all... the biggest problem I had is it is too flimsy... I had to replace it 3 times due to minor tumbles and when I say minor I mean bout an inch from the ground... I know they have cases for it but that makes it bulkier.... The Kindle Fire is good too there are only 2 things I do not like at all... the fact that I cannot disable the carousel feature and I cannot make collections... even with the regular kindle I can decide to show items by author most recent or title on my home screen.... Anyway I hate it so much that I have been seriously looking into the Kindle Touch 3G....The only reason I got the Fire is cause after my Kindle Keyboard fell out of my purse and the screen shattered once again the Fire was only $10.00 more than the Keyboard at the time.

I have a Kindle Touch and it also jumps ahead or goes back to the beginning of the book when touching the screen to turn the page. This happens most often when I am in the sun reading.

I took my touch back and got the keyboard. 3g on it works on everything, on the touch it doesn't and it rotates on the KK which the touch won't do. Kindle Fire is nice (I have both the fire and the kk) but I read outside too much not to have the KK (fire is hard to see in bright sunlight) as well plus the fact I use text to talk more way to much not to have it and you don't have it on the Kindle Fire. As you said, unless you are in a hot spot you can't use the internet or watch streaming movies. But I think you can view rented or bought movies that you have downloaded to your kindle fire without being connected to the net. But you can only download a few at a time.

edited: I took my touch back before the update that lets it rotate.

The Touch rotates just fine except for web pages.

Any Kindle can download textbooks if those textbooks are in the Kindle format. Having done that, I have to admit, I like the old-fashioned ability to flip pages back and forth quickly in order to write reports, but some people like the ability to carry around their textbooks in a small device.

Why not? I view graphics in landscape on my Touch all the time.

That post was made before the latest update that gave the rotation option to the Touch.

I have a K2 (with 3G), Fire wife's Galaxy Tab and Ipad w 3G. Was evaluating 3G Touch for the beach last week. Forget it. Touch 3G is for people without access to wifi. 3G is pretty much useless for anything but Amazon selling you stuff. I could at least read my Gmail on the beach with my K2. Get the Fire, a wifi Touch or maybe one of the GTabs and put a kindle app on it. The IPad is a pain in my b*** with a lot of hidden costs. Luckily it is not used much.

3g on the kindle touch isn't much use like NG said. But on the KK it lets you on the internet to do things. Very clunky so not wonderful but better than what's on the Kindle touch.

My wife has the kIndle w/keyboard. I have the touch which I like much better. It's so easy to use. When I use my wife's I keep hitting the screen in frustration. Love the touch.

same here - is it us users or the kindle? it's extremely aggravating and needs to be fixed.

Posted on May 23, 2012 5:14:44 AM PDT
It's the user. If you hit it in the wrong spot it flips too many pages. Make sure you hit it way over to the right. I didn't hate the touch. I'm just more of a button person. After I gave the touch back for the KK I did hit the screen a lot trying to flip to the next page. :-) But now I can change from the fire to the kk without doing that.

thank you so much for your input - it was driving me crazy - i started wishing i had chosen the button style - i think what happens is i start to fall asleep with the kindle in my hands and accidentally touch 'the' spot as my hands relax. my other problem is with the 'on/off' button at the bottom - i hit it and turn the kindle off when i try to balance it on my lap when i read in bed - i would be better off with the button on top. appreciate your help - pam
